I've attended a candidate visit weekend in March of 2023 and while there, I was extremely paranoid about going onto my phone not because of no phones allowed rules, but because of thoughts on how much the USNA tracks your phone data while in their vicinity.
Now, my high school has internet security (specifically, goguardian and hapara networking) on all their chromebooks to prevent students from going on stupid websites like the Hub, but this is easily avoided if you use your personal phone instead since it's not part of the network.
My question is that does the USNA have something more advanced than this type of thing? And how deep does this security go exactly? I'm worried that if USNA happens to track some sites in my internet history years ago on my own personal phone (during academic year) that they deem unacceptable, will they immediately dishonorably discharge me or give me bad punishment? And can it track you even if you put your phone on airplane mode and you're within like a 15-mile radius vicinity of the Yard/Bancroft Hall? Can it track every movement you make, and every keystroke and word you put down? And are you allowed to use your own personal computer once Plebe Summer is over, or must you use the issued computers the Academy gives you specifically throughout your four years?
And another thing: I happen to have a social media network (ie Youtube channel, Twitch, VLOGs, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and I don't know if this will be acceptable or not at USNA. I've always posted family friendly and appropriate content, but will USNA and the Navy as a whole require you to delete all of your accounts to avoid leakage of classified information to our adversaries (ie Russia, China, North Korea, etc)? Or if they still allow you to have your channels up, if you post VLOGs and anything about USNA for future candidates, will you have to send your videos to another agency first before posting your videos because of media rules, USNA reputation/personal image, and whatnot?
Sorry about the rant, but I wanna make sure that I'm aware of what the USNA and the Navy as a whole have rights to see without your consent first. :/
It's just that I've seen movies and that this is a federal service academy, so they should literally have the greatest and most intruding digital security on the planet, right? (gulp)
