Interview Questions

My DS just completed his 3 MOC interviews. 1st was a panel of 4 and it went well he said. 2nd was 1 person it went well he said. 3rd was a panel of 9 and they spent 5 mins on gun control. They asked if civilians should have 'military grade weapons' he asked them to clarify and of course they chimed in with the AR-15. They also touched on race and sexual harassment. The 1st 2 interviews were the typical questions you would expect. But that last one HOLY COW! He did say he thought they liked him otherwise.
Side note: I love that you identified yourself as Jarhead's dad! We have really enjoyed his comments on here!

OOPPSS! I am A JARHEAD DAD (JarheadDAD) not Jarhead's DAD lol. So I'm a jarhead I do have a son that's a jarhead and my DS that is HOPING to get a nom soon hopes to be a jarhead.
Got it! I wasn't thinking broadly enough! Good luck to all the many aspiring Jarheads out there!

DS just finished his MOC interview. There were 3 on the panel. It sounded like a mix of good cop, bad cop, and one in between. The "bad cop" shouted questions and was stoned face the entire time. The good cop asked questions warmly and almost smiled. The middle one asked my son about where the Air Force ranks in terms of cyber development. DS did not apply to Air Force and did not know, which rattled him a bit. The good news is that he will find out next week! @usna1985 I have to believe there is some understanding that for as much "leadership experience" these kids have, they are still inexperienced young adults. I agree that it's pretty silly to think otherwise.

Zombie thread revival

That 3rd panel of nine was out of line imo.
Inviting a gun control debate at an MOC interview? Regardless of the candidates opinion of those politically polarized questions, I don’t see the benefits of learning the candidates position or lack of. Maybe to check their bearing, but whatever.
Correct “non political “ answers can and should include that you will support and defend the Constitution of the United States, etc...no opinion needed

I thought that line of questioning was out of line also. But my DS did say he made an attempt to keep it light and he did make them laugh. he did say he felt they liked him. The really good news is his 1st interview was a success. He received a nomination from the Congressman. Interview on 12/7 decision on 12/16. That was fast.

Which state?

The panel for one of my son’ Senatorial interviews was similar with regard to a large panel format (seven or nine individuals) with an aggressive line of questioning.

His other Senatorial interview was a one-on-one, and his Congressional interview was a panel of three individuals.

My DS's panel was 7 or 9 also. Not one of them introduced themselves and just jumped into questions. His 1st 2 interviews were more inline with what you may have heard or seen concerning other interviews. Why this Academy? What makes you qualified? etc. 1 of his Senatorial interviews was one on one, his congressional was a panel of 4. My DS did receive a nom and 'Fully Qualified Offer of Appointment' and yes he quickly accepted. He did receive an LOA in Oct. A friend of one of his teachers who is involved with the nomination process in another state wanted to go 'nuclear' on that panel but was asked to stand down, LOL. I'd hate for him to suffer any political backlash due to negative feedback over that one panels interview.
