January 4, 2011 AROTC Board

Still out here lurking. This message posted on the Cadet Application Status System this morning:

"We are having problems processing your request. Please call 1-800-750-7682, press option 5, then press option 2 and you will be connected to a processor who can assist you."

An automated system to leave your phone number. This is the first time I have seen this on my status link. Anyone else getting this message?

Still hopeful mom.

You probably just put the social security number iincorrectly as this is what happens when you do that. Try again and hopefully you'll see the correct page.

Hopefully you will sign on and see good news.

Glad you are still with us. When I saw your post I tried DS log in, went straight to the "interview with professor of mil...blah blah.". Wish is was good news, but I got to thinking yesterday that my whole attitude about when(if ever:rolleyes:) the results come in for the January board. On 1/4/11 I started this thread thinking I'd be hanging out here for a few weeks(1/30/11 latest) and if things didn't go well for DS, then I'd check back in for the March board. Anyhow, as we all very well know, nothing went as planned for the January board. Over the few weeks since then I have come to a resigned state of mind - middle of March likely so just hang out here when I have time(I do love you guys:smile:) and enjoy hashing this stuff out(whether it really means anything or not)and blowing off a little steam. Many of us have mentioned friends and family not involved in the process really don't get it and having this outlet really does seem to help many of us(30+thousand views can't be wrong:wink:). So, I hope everyone else is handling the long wait better too, and that our DD/DSs learn something from this as they face their potential military careers.

Take care everyone.:wiggle:

Can chalk another positive up to playing sports: a distraction when waiting for board results. Last night DS's hockey team beat a team they had never beaten and had been playing them for like 20 years. Life is good as we wait.

Sounds like a great way to spend some time, congrats to the team on their victory!!

Congrats on the win. I will say I had an  moment. Rule of thumb is wrap your kid up in bubble wrap due to DodMerb issues (broken bones, concussions, etc).

That being said, I think it is great you didn't bubble wrap and continued life as usual.

Funny

Already passed the DodMerb, although no scholarship, and already needed the bubble wrap; let's just say the same character traits DS possesses on the ice are the ones that I believe will make him a great fit for the military. Now you know why my screen name is what it is.

BUBBLE WRAP??? Like a 17/18 yr old would ever go for that. We'd have to sedate him to pull that off. His biggest threat is his driving....2nd wreck in 4 weeks(luckily no injuries....) I can just see telling him, sorry son, but you're not driving until after "the decision" comes down...:yllol: He's DodMERB qualified too, but I guess God, his guardian angel or someone else is gonna have to help me out with the disqualifing injury issue:thumb:

Paradoxer, not a hockey family: can you explain your screen name for me?

Hockey it's not

One definition of a paradox: a tenet contrary to received opinion,
or another:
a statement that is seemingly contradictory or opposed to common sense and yet is perhaps true

I find in my own life the often paradoxes rule and that many people refuse to see this reality.

That's what I thought your name implied....just wasn't sure how DS's hockey style and military tied into all that...I'm a little out of it today....

HI all - I've been following all the posts on this site for the last couple weeks. My DS has applied at West Point and for an ROTC scholarship. We found out from WP that he did not get the appointment from the nominations that he received from our MOC - so now he is on the NWL.
We've also heard that he was part of the January ROTC board - so we wait with the rest of you.
Also found out this week that he is fully qualified by DODMERB. Now that was a long process - he required 4 waivers - and he received all 4! I guess miracles really do happen!
His first school choice is Penn State - he's been accepted there! Also he is interested in Clemson University - we should hear about CU next week.
Just thought that I'd jump in to the conversation. It's nice to know that we aren't alone in this process.

Welcome!

So I just checked the DodMERB status and it says that all my documents have been received yesterday at 9:03 AM. So how long will this take?

and I'll try and let ClarksonArmy having the pleasure of announcing the results,

I REALLY hope you guys are kidding and someone will posts here as soon as some results are coming in. This wait is brutal.

30+thousand views can't be wrong

I wouldnt get too excited about that. I think half of those views are mine from seeing new posts to this thread

And I'm REALLY hoping CC doesnt deduct points for too many status update checks. I'm sure that checking a couple times per day adds up pretty quickly.

You were able to use the DodMERB website to check status? I had not heard it was back up yet. Anyway, the process was pretty quick for DS - physical & eye exam on 12/13, exam finding sent to Dod within a 3 day window, cleared by Dod by 12/27...so hopefully the wait for seeing if you meet standards won't be too long(if you have remedials, contact Larry Mullen on the Dod forum here).

Winter, I doubt they keep track of how many times we log in....but, please try to relax(a little?) I know I hate hearing people tell me to relax, too, but honestly I don't think the results are coming out anytime soon. Too many sources are pointing to the Mar 4th budget resolution renewal or whatever else the federal government can cook up needing to be solved before the military branches can honestly get down to business with the SA appointments and ROTC scholarship awards. I put total faith in ClarksonsArmy to notify us if he see/hears anything of the results being posted. Check the thread as often as you need to, if we hit 36 or so thousand we go on a new list of most viewed threads.....yeah, I'm amused that they keep track of these things, but I'll take a quick giggle where ever I can find it:shake:

Welcome to the waiting room.... Sorry to hear you DS didn't received an appointment to WP, I'm sure it was hard to hear. Glad they at least let you know, now you can hang out with all of us crazy parents(and a few applicants) until this is over.

I went to my exams on jan 27th and was qualified by feb 4th

so now he is on the NWL.

People need to understand the NWL. What it means is they did not win the nom for the apptmt, BUT they scored high enough to be looked at from a national perspective; using other sources besides their MOC.

In college terms they would be considered deferred or wait listed.

Absolutely stinks to hear/read that, yet nothing is over until I DAY.

I only wanted to state that so posters/lurkers understand the NWL.

Upshot for your DS, is to remember, for him to get noms to WP, and make the NWL he is probably sitting pretty, only problem would be the competition for PSU and CU which are big name universities.

Clarkson and Marist would be posters as a parent I would try to pm for more guidance on chances.

It stinks for all of you, and even though I am not an AROTC Mom, I have come to know many of you personally, so I too am waiting anxiously until I can:w00t::bounce1::jump1::groupwave:

instead of:bang::scratch::screwy::muscles2: and:blowup:

I think I hit every emo-con for how you all feel.

Keep just thinking that you are Dora from Finding Nemo...just keep swimming, swimming, swimming:shake:

OhioParent: I went to https://www.dodmets.com/ to check my application status and that is where it said: "ALL BASIC MEDICAL DOCUMENTS ARE RECEIVED BY DODMERB ON Feb 9 2011 9:03AM" It then said "For further information about your application status CLICK HERE." which led me to (dodmerb.tricare.osd/). I opend that URL and for some reason it did not work.

DON'T PANIC. DodMERB.tricare site has been down for a while(a few weeks)so call them on the number from your paperwork and ask how this will impact your results. The forum for DodMERB on here may also have additional information, read the older threads about the website being down. So sorry, I completely forgot the dodmets was its own site and handled everything in the beginning - until the information transfers to DodMERB for the "official" evaluation of how you compare medically to the standards.

Thanks to PIMA for explaining about NWL. My DS still has a chance at West Point but he is trying to have a back up plan and a back up plan for the back up plan! And honestly he is excited about all of his potential options!

Thanks also for the advise about contacting those other people. We will definitely do that. We have talked to someone at Penn State and they were positive about our DS - but they could say that to everyone.

This may have already been covered, but how are the students going to be notified about the results for the Jan board (that is if they ever release the results!) -
Is it the ROTC website? An email? A phone call? Regular mail?

Thanks!

The first change in status will be on the ROTC Scholarship Status Page, it will change from "You have been selected for an interview" to "You may now check your Dodmerb Status" If you see that change you are most likely awarded the scholarship but don't dance too much until you see the status change again to " You have been awarded a scholarship to the following schools..." You will then receive a letter in the mail from Cadet Command listing the schools you received the scholarship to and it will also tell whether they are 4 year or 3 year AD scholarships. During all this you may get a call from the ROO's but don't count on that, they have been advised not to contact winners until the official letter has been sent out. The letter comes in about 1 to 2 weeks after the status changes on the website.
