January 4, 2011 AROTC Board

And I'm REALLY hoping CC doesnt deduct points for too many status update checks. I'm sure that checking a couple times per day adds up pretty quickly.

Wait . . . there's a website where my DS can check his AROTC status?

(you just made me laugh out loud, WinterHater!)

Might be a website, but since it's winter it's frozen solid and the status never changes. You'll need to wait until a spring thaw before any changes will be noticed.

Colleagues:

Not to be negative, but check out post #209 on the NROTC thread (on page 21).

This does NOT appear to be a typical year for the military.

I just got off the phone with a ROO and he said he has heard that within the next week or so the decisions will be released!!! However, as it has been said repeatedly CC has a funny way of switching things up. I personally like to believe its to keep everything entertaining

This quote made my day(possibly week). Haven't laughed that hard in a while.

Yes, CC exisits solely to be entertaining....I really do believe you could be onto something. A few day, a few weeks what's the difference.......hope all the ROOs are getting so fed up with being called, emailed and pestered in general that they are raising hedouble tooth picks with CC about moving some information into the pipeline.

I am confused again. Are only some of the applicants getting DODMERB messages? Should everyone have had a physical in order to qualify, or does that happen after the message changes on the status website? HELP!?!

You have no say in when you get the DoDMERB packet and instructions on how to complete it. If you have not received a packet yet you'll just have to keep waiting. :frown: The only people who are getting messages are those who have already completed the DoDMERB exams.

Yes, as he explained, we have no idea how the early DodMERB group is being selected. Typically, no one did the physicals until AFTER being offered a scholarship(past few years) so this is just another way the January 2011 board has been different. I would not read too much into whether or not your kiddo has been sent a packet or not. It is nice to know where you stand in regards to the standards for physical qualifications, but right now I think everyone would trade that for a status change on the ROTC site:wink:

Ohio2015Parent, this thread is currently ranked as the 3rd "Hottest Thread" and will likely move into the top 5 most-viewed thread of all time. Congrats on starting the excellent thread! (CC admittedly helped a little in that regard!)

I expect that this thread will explode in the very near future (at least I hope so).

Yes, when a few posters mentioned this I found where they keep the "record" on the index page. Quite amusing. Wish my first thought had been correct, 3 weeks from 1/4/11 and we would all be moving on with a decision in hand(a few of us would have been waiting for March, but with a predictable pattern). CC has left us all with too many questions and even though I love a good mystery, this one grows tiresome. The results will have to come eventually, right?

Oh, side note, I've been following CNN as you mentioned in a previous post that they would have news of the budget resolution before anyone. I am able to pick out main ideas, but with my limited education(no formal stats or economics in my schooling) it is challenging. So maybe we should start a thead in the off topic/military/academy news forums so you, Pima and the others "in the know" can debate on some of those political types and their decisions. I have disabled brothers(twins)so I must watch for budget issues with medicaid in Ohio, which of course, feeds from the federal....so the military budget isn't the only one that affects my family:frown: Such is life.

Hope everyone has a good morning!

Spoke to someone at Cadet Command yesterday and they said we should all hear something next week!!

Is it possible that the long wait is almost over?

That likely won't be very helpful, unfortunately, because nobody knows. I am currently working on some legal issues pending in Congress (patent law reform legislation), which I actually need to turn to rather than refreshing the AROTC scholarship status every five minutes!

As of this week, not even the President of the United States knows what will happen in terms of how to dig us out of the budget mess. We had a major "hiccup" on Wednesday of this week, as you can see here: http://www.congress.org/news/2011/02/10/conservatives_spurn_spending_plan Congress.org is a good source of information to see where things are at any given moment.

This stuff usually comes down to the wire as some MOCs try to hold the entire process hostage in an effort to get their back-channel pet projects approved before committing to a vote on other matters. That's our "system" (ain't perfect, but it works). The news reporters usually find out things like this first, but often not until the day of the vote. Each of the armed services also have folks actively roaming the halls of Congress looking for answers. Even after any vote on a CR, there will be a delay until the military decides what it means for them and what to do (they are correctly more concerned about paying for bullets and jet fuel than funding ROTC). That said, however, I do not know what the financial planners are currently doing in the Pentagon (in that regard, I get most of my up-to-date information from this board started by Ohio2015Parent!).

I heard the same thing! This might actually not just be a rumor

I 'third' that. It appears this trend of concurance may be on the correct path. I certainly hope so as a candidate. BUT, per usual, I shall try not to get my hopes up in effort to avoid dissapointment. At this point, what's another week?:rolleyes:

Does anybody have a solid number to call ad CC to verify this rumor? I would call my POC, but she never answers the phone or replies to emails.

Good, I'm not the only "refresher" on the boards....I'm usually working on something and refresh like every 10-15 mintues...

Thanks for the link. I have pieced together a lot, but I'm thinking now I may take a community college course in econ or stats....I'm tired of not being able to make more informed decisions and hold opinions based more in facts.

Obsolutely, take care of needs in the field before anything. And, yep, our system ain't perfect, but I wouldn't trade it for another one. And thanks for the plug....

Okay, so IF we get results next week we can say, yes, this was good information. Not getting hopes up here yet again.....ClarksonsArmy will tell us when the results are up, not getting my pulse up until I hear from him:smile:

Ohio2015Parent is right. We've heard before -- from various SAF members reporting on their individual communications with CC -- that an announcement was at hand (Ohio, is it Jan. 25 yet?). While everyone up and down the chain is working overtime to really do the right thing here (so neither CC nor anyone in the system should be faulted at all), the fact remains that we appear to be currently in an "imperfect" situation.

But I am curious about the answer to the following question: Is the Army able to start writing checks for new scholarships without really knowing how much money is in its bank account? I really wish I knew the answer to that question (and don't have the time to research it), because it would tell us a lot. Perhaps someone with Finance Corps experience knows. Also, can conditional offers (i.e., offers conditional upon the availability of sufficient funds) be extended?

For now, I think Ohio2015Parent's advice about waiting for a post from clarksonarmy or Marist College ROTC (or someone else with a direct line to CC) is wise.

On a positive note...2 of the ranking cadets from DS's first choice came to visit him and another prospective cadet at school today! They were in town for another event and stopped in just to talk to them. He was pretty jazzed about it. They told him too that the scholarships are on hold, but he and the other student are both high on the schools OML. A nice gesture that meant alot while we are in the holding pattern. :thumb:

Thanks for including Marist College ROTC...didn't mean to leave him out!

That is so cool that they stopped in to see him:smile: Prayers for us all that our DD/DS get their answer soon (and its a positive one:wink:).
