mid-west

Has anyone from the mid-west received their status change? or do you know of someone that has?

Thanks!

This is helpful information. Thanks very much. I guess CC will inform us what's next in writing at some point.

Has anyone from the mid-west received their status change? or do you know of someone that has?

I'm from Ohio, and I recieved my status change. I applied for Ohio State, George Mason, American, and Georgetown, not sure where I got the scholarship for just yet.

Okay- totally confused at this point--any advice appreciated. DS will be evaluated by the March 8 ROTC board. He is 3Q'd for USMA and is on the NWL. If his status changes on the next month on the ROTC board ( fingers crossed) to the Check with DoDMERB message, how is that different to already being DoDMERB qualified for USMA? I understood that the qualification lasted for 2 years--does ROTC look for different criteria???

Also, we received an email today from his 5th choice school asking if he was interested on their ROTC program and has he been accepted to the school? I'm choosing to take this as a good sign that he's a strong candidate for a scholarship from the March board but as this is his last choice school, if he does receive a scholarship, is it this school or no school? Thanks in advance for any help--BTW-- this is a state school whose tuition to equal to the other schools on DS's list.

The message from CC to check DoDMERB status is generic (they don't look to see if you've cleared or not) and just says you've got a scholarship offer coming. IIRC (although Mr. Mullen is the one to ask), if he is USMA qualified (without waivers), ROTC should be covered. Waivers are done separately by USMA and ROTC IIRC.

The question about the 5th choice school is a good news - bad news situation.

I suspect that for the last board schools want to get the scholarship offers right (acceptance) and a previous post suggested that CC is giving out 1 choice. It is good that #5 wants him. However, you don't know if schools 1-4 have any slots available (pending this board acceptances) to give them guidance. I imagine that if you say "He's there" to #5, you'll be more likely to see it (and perhaps no other choice).

It may also say that they have a campus scholarship as well that they may be considering him for.

From the posts by Clarksonarmy, it seems that the units don't know how many more scholarships they will be getting this year, so perhaps this is a campus scholarship possibility. I would guess that you won't find out unless you give an unequivacle "We in". Don't do that unless you are 100% certain. Could fowl up things other places.

Perhaps Clarksonarmy or Marist could provide more guidance...

We live in the middle of the US and my son did get the DoDMERB message, but no phone calls yet, no idea which of the in state schools he might have a scholarship to.

Yes, we live in Western WI; my DS's status changes to the "DODMERB" message about 1hr. ago while I was actually trying to get caught up on this thread. I haven't posted here before, but I think now is a good time.

R - school choices below, but haven't seen actual message via status or which school.
University of ND
University of MN, Twin Cities
University of MN, Mankato

They must be working late.

I also have the "check your DoDMERB..." But mine has said this for about two weeks? I have been Q'ed for ROTC,NROTC, and USNA. What is my next step in the process for AROTC? and why did i recieve this DoDMERB message weeks ago instead of... now like everyone else? haha thanks for any help

I think the next step is they will update your webpage next week to list your schools. Then, as I understand it, you will receive an official letter in a couple of weeks.

It's weird that your status changed a couple of weeks ago. Someone suggested earlier that CC may be updating in OML rank order. If that is correct, then you are definitely A STAR!!!

Congrats, pieterm!!

Congrats, dogdoc!!

If your DS is qualified for USMA, he will be qualified for AROTC. They use the same standards. It only takes a couple of days, so while you can't see it on the DoDMERB website, when it comes back online, you'll see AROTC added to your "qualified" list. You will also get an updated letter very soon from DoDMERB reflecting this information.

School #5 is likely preparing a "recommend for selection" memo to the AROTC board, and they just want to be sure your DS is still interested and will be admitted to that school (most definitely tell them "YES!"). My DS's schools did that as well. Don't read anything into the fact that this is School #5, because Schools ##1-4 are probably doing the same thing but haven't emailed your DS (and likely won't). I'd take this as a good sign. As for your question about "school or no school", we are about to find that out. No one knows for sure yet.

Sorry to post so much this morning, but here's an interesting tidbit for those who may be just beginning this process (Class of 2016).

The AROTC scholarship application requires an interview at the "school of your choice". My DS decided to interview with the ROTC unit at the local state school and not at his selected AROTC application schools. To date, he has NOT met with ANY of the ROTC PMSs at ANY of the schools listed on his AROTC application. My DS has taken a "wait and see" approach -- doesn't make sense to invest a lot of time and effort by visiting with the cadre at his list of schools until he knows: (1) whether CC has decided DS should attend School A, School B, or School B, etc.; and (2) whether he receives the nod from the admissions offices at his AROTC schools.

Bottom line, cozying up with AROTC cadre at choice schools does not appear to have an influence on the board. Of course, though, DS/DDs need to have a "recommend for selection" memo from the selected schools. Given the current environment, though, I would expect that the AROTC units would want to recommend EVERYONE who might be interested in their school. clarksonarmy and Marist College ROTC may have more input on this issue, as they are in the cadre environment.

In any event, I suppose that IF DS's change of status really means an offer was extended (reserving judgment until paper is in hand), then we'll find out where to focus his efforts on the AROTC front. Geez, I wish there was an easier way to do this!!

EDIT: My DS did receive emails (blanket to all applicants who listed the particular school) from ROOs. You should respond to every email or letter you might receive, even if it's just "Thank you very much for he useful information." It's a courtesy thing.

I am still yet to see a status change. It there a chance that since i got a dodmerb letter for the SA's months ago, that it counted for the AROTC dodmerb too, and they are just waiting to post the schools?
Trying not to give up on this board . Congrats to all of those who have heard! you must be jumping with excitement!

My DS was qualified through DoDMERB through the SAs as well. Shortly before the DoDMERB site went down, he noticed that AROTC was added to his list. No additional medical examinations required.

We look forward to seeing you log on with a new SAF name, changed from "stillhopeful" to "Hot Damn!!!"

Thank you parentesq, does this mean that my status will still change to "you may check your dodmerb status.." if i am awarded a scholarship?

Unfortunately, no. My DS's DoDMERB status listed AROTC, but AROTC remained "you have been selected for an interview" for a couple of months.

BTW, it's "patentesq", not "parentesq"!!!! :shake: (those who have seen the movie Young Frankenstein will appreciate that comment).

Good luck, stillhopeful.

LOL my apologies patentesq. if you dont mind me asking, was the wait of a couple months for the next board or until the schools awarded to were posted

In mid January or so (you'll have to go back on this thread to find it), DS noticed that there was change to his DoDMERB list that added "AROTC". Immediately after that, the DoDMERB site went down. There was some speculation about whether that was a good sign or not. Since the DoDMERB site went down six weeks ago, this must have happened six weeks ago. Here's the timeline for my DS:

Jan. 4 -- AROTC board (first board for my DS)

Mid Jan. -- DoDMERB lists "AROTC -- Qualified", in addition to SAs.

Mid Jan. -- DoDMERB site goes down

Feb. 26 -- AROTC status updated to instruct DS to check DoDMERB site for status.
