I have a few questions about the January board:
1. Does anyone here really, Really, REALLY know how many scholarships were ultimately awarded from the January AROTC Board? I suspect the answer is "NO." (remember, the number "awarded" and the number "announced" are two ENTIRELY different things).
2. Could it be that the January board might have awarded approximately 500 scholarships as it did in November, but because of the uncertainty over the FY2011 budget, CC decided to release, say, only 50 this week, thereby placing the rest of those already "marked for award" on the "A" shelf and scheduled for release as soon as CC's budget numbers eventually become clearer? I suspect the answer is "IT'S POSSIBLE." (I really believe that CC is being very cautious right now, and it very well could be that the list of "50", or whatever number it was, was generated TOTALLY at random -- which would mean that there could be "oodles" of candidates with higher WCS scores who are STILL waiting to hear).
3. Are the folks who will not hear for another month better off than those who will hear this week? I suspect the answer is "YES." (the folks who will hear this week will have to do acrobatics over the next few weeks if they are not yet admitted to the school(s) that CC has selected for them).
4. Do we really, Really, REALLY know whether the scholarships that were released this time around were mainly 3yr. scholarships (remember, I think 3yrs. count on the FY2012 budget, not the FY2011 budget), but CC decided to withhold announcement of a majority of the 4yr. scholarships (which DO count on the FY2011 budget) until the budget picture for FY2011 becomes clearer? I suspect the answer is "NO." (recall that I placed a call on Thursday and was told that this was only 4yr. scholarships, but with hairyjewbear's comment above about receiving a 3yr, I may have received inaccurate information). (BTW, congrats, hairyjewbear!!!).
Does anyone know the answers to these questions? I don't. One thing I DO know, though, is that this is NOT a normal year.
