January 4, 2011 AROTC Board

Just sent an e-mail. Thanks!

Let us know what they say, we are now very curious since your status page never changed. This will be a new twist for sure in this crazy process.

Good luck to your son.

Rochester Institute of Technology doesn't seem to list an ROO. Who should I contact instead?

Anybody that will answer the phone at the ROTC office at the school, they should be able to direct you to the right person.

Is RIT a host school, if it is not find out who the host school is and contact the ROO at that school.

Found out today that I've been given a four year AROTC scholarship to Norwich University in VT. I do believe that I am officially done with college applications now:biggrin:

Thanks everyone! The wait was long and hard, but well worth it. I recieved it to my 1st choice, the Citadel in SC.

Doesn't that just feel great, enjoy the rest of your senior year, stay healthy and stay out of trouble of course.

Good luck next year and have a great summer.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!! (by the way, isn't Norwich in Connecticut?)

dogdoc, I suspect CapeRunner is scratching his head right now. He'll get the joke the minute he returns home for Thanksgiving break and tries to explain to his friends what he's been up to for the last few months.

Another weird twist

Well, my son has yet to hear from anyone at either of the 2 in state schools to which he applied, although he did get the status change. He called the school in our town, spoke to the PMS with whom he interviewed and was told they had no word yet about scholarships! What??? He told my son that he fully expected to be calling with good news, that all had gone well and he was a great candidate. I am so confused by this. Any plausible explanations?

The cadre are under a gag order not to disclose. I've heard letters went out on Friday and I've heard letters went out today. Either way, it will be a couple of days before you hear.

Thank you for that, Patentesq. I may have to stop telling lawyer jokes.

The Jan. Board just keeps getting stranger.

It seems you are not alone in that you don't seem to be getting a straight answer. It's possible that not all the schools have been notified as to whether they have received any scholarship winners.

Some have been told by schools that they will be receiving a letter but their status did not change. Some like you have had a status change but no confirmation from any school.

The letters should be coming out soon and maybe that will sort things out.

Marist did say that the list was finished as of this morning, I guess we'll see what happens.

Things that could have happened...

I've heard of scholarships to schools not even on an applicants list being offered. Strange? Yes? If your spot on the OML is up and all of your schools' scholarships are spoken for, CC has been known to send a letter notifying you that you have a scholarship but you have to find a school with a scholarship to take you. I think this happened to a couple of folks on this forum on the last board last year.

Are the schools on his list ones that might not have any more scholarships (small units or very high demand units)?

goaliedad, I don't understand why CC would care about allocations. Really, doesn't it cost them the same amount to squeeze in another allocation to a 1st choice school than to urge the applicant to find a similarly priced other allocation?

You might want to check with Clarkson or Marist, but I think units are given budgets for a certain amount (dollars I think) and the units (at least used to) can carve that up into X scholarships at school 1 Y scholarships at school 2, etc. to balance out the load among their campuses and whatnot.

The Army doesn't want everyone at one campus one year and at another campus a couple years later. When a campus' allotment is full and another campus has slots, CC only awards scholarships where there are slots.

Over time, if a unit doesn't get enough cadets attracted through scholarship/SMP/etc., the Army closes programs. Clarkson should be able to confirm, but I think a few years ago there were several more SUNY schools with ROTC programs that were closed because they were not attracting enough cadets to make them viable.

Doesn't have to make sense to us out here, but has to make budget/plan.

^^^
-if CC is unsure how many scholarships will be awarded in round 3, they must spread out the scholarships pretty evenly this go-round. The way the program is set up the upperclassmen must have freshman to lead, you can't have a program with no freshman.

Hi there.....my son was recently accepted to Virginia Tech/University Honors. He was told by his liason at ROTC Scholarship that he was reviewed in the Feb board and would know on March 11 the results of that review. However,on this site I see frequent reference to the SCHOOL contacting the student to let them know of an award. Is this customary or do most students find out that they have been awarded a scholarship via the tracker? Thanks for any info!
