January 4, 2011 AROTC Board

We need some help....DS visited his college yesterday and met with the AROTC office. He was offered a 4 year scholarship. DS wasn't impressed. They did nothing to entice him to come to the school and didn't sell him on their program. Very disappointing visit. How can and when can he look at transferring his scholarship? We have left a few messages with the school he wants to go to that he already gotten into last week and have left a few messages and haven't heard back from them. Anyone else having trouble?

Sorry to hear he didn't enjoy Rutgers.
This same thread. Post #1757
Although the letter says you have to wait until May to ask to transfer, my advice (and the guidance from my higher) is to ask for the transfer now, and provide a letter of acceptance to the school you want to attend. If you don't have a letter of acceptance yet it may be an issue. By all means accept the scholarship if you intend to enroll in ROTC. You can always decline the scholarship at a later time if Cadet Command insists you attend a school you don't want to attend.

thanks, DS being the smart one in the group said on the ride home he wants to go back for another visit and give it another chance. He is going to also see about transferring the scholarship. But if all else fails be might do walk on AFROTC or go for the AROTC route. We don't want anyone to think that RU rotc is some how not an awesome unit or anything, it just wasn't what he thought it would be like. He has visited other rotc units at other colleges and had a better vibe of it. Maybe it was an off day for them. They have a great reputation and a great unit from what we have heard. Is anyone else going to Rutgers AROTC in the fall? Or have they gone through the program and enjoyed it?

Thanks

Anything for a distraction. Hope he's still healthy afterwards too.

Thanks for the encouragement. Soon this thread should have 100,000 views, might already but my views count only refreshes about once a day.

Great Job and where do I send the T-Shirt?

officically over the 100,000 views(100,208 at this time).
Wow, on January 4th I only thought about making it thru until the end of January-1st of February -- outside the end of March. Now just praying to know something before DS graduates 6/5/11...

Same here but a 5/22/11 graduation date!

Healthy yes, but need another distraction as the team lost 3-2; hear Clarkson lost as well :frown:. Planning another campus visit during spring break to first choice school, which of course includes playing a little hockey and inquiring about campus based scholarship availability.

To piggy back on Pima's advice (in the new thread), DS is reading The Element and how finding the place where your passion and natural ability intersect is so key to personal achievement. Obviously what your passion is may be hard to discern at 18 but none the less is a great question to ask as you consider the various options.

I sent an email the roo at the school I have the scholarship to, and in that email I said I was going to try to transfer it to another school, but also said if that was not possible I would still love to go to his school. Was this a good or bad move on my part? I am a very honest person and wouldn't have felt right not mentioning it.

ROTC

I hate to jump into a moving thread like this but most of you seem to be very well informed. I finished my ROTC application in mid November and It went in front of the January Board, I know there is a lot of speculation out there about weather, and politics that may have slowed the results of Army ROTC applicants, I just want to know if anyone has received any concrete information about the January boards results or when they will be posting them. I have already been accepted to Oregon State Universities Pre-Civil Engineering program so it is difficult to set up my room and board without knowing my ROTC results. Thanks

Jan board results are all out..next board is Mar 8th..hang in there

Check your status here https://schlr4yr.usarmyrotc.com/scholarshipstatus/status.asp If it says you need to schedule an interview than you didn't get one in January. The same situations apply to almost everyone waiting on the March board as far as making school arrangements this late in the game. The folks on the March 8th thread are discussing the same issues and you might get some good ideas. Best of Luck

ROTC

Thank you. Where/How you can you find out your results? I was pretty confident I would receive an AROTC scholarship. I have wrestled Varsity for 3yrs I am enrolled in AP Physics and AP Statistics and Calculus and have a 3.2 GPA(un-weighted). I can wait longer it's just a little nerve racking trying to plan your college life on a scholarship that I might not even receive.

Thanks bjkuds

I used your link it does say "You have been selected for an interview contact..."
So that would me I did not receive a scholarship that is disappointing

That is apparently the joy of the Army this year. I believe all that are qualified get rolled into the next board which is in a day or 2..Mar 8th. Hoping for results to be posted on that link a gave you in a few weeks. Most of us have it bookmarked and check it often, but no one really knows when the results will be out. It is pure speculation. Your stats look good, but reality is so do a lot of people this year. The competition is very fierce, and no one is a sure thing. But if you want to serve,,if that is your goal, then there is more than one way to get there, so don't be discouraged if the scholarship doesn't come through.

Thanks for the support everyone I will wait as patiently as I can for the next few weeks but it isn't easy. When I first look at the requirements for an Army ROTC cadet I was pretty shocked to see GPA of 2.5 and SAT or 920 (math/reading only) I do realize that the economy is not very well of and a lot of very talented people will be looking for military jobs and support. From what i was told the boards are very competitive. My girlfriend is attend Southern Oregon University and is trying for an ROTC scholarship, the Kernel at that school mentioned if she did not receive the traditional ROTC scholarship she could still be an active ROTC cadet and most likely be put on an ROTC scholarship. I would be interested in hearing some of the details about this, because it is possible I will not be getting an Army ROTC scholarship from the next board.

If you check in on the Mar 8th ROTC link there will definitely be a lot more activity when the results come out, and you may find out on here before you hear from anyone else that decisions have come out. Its also a good place to voice your concerns, and questions and get moral support. The people here are very knowledgeable and willing to share their insight. Many are parent's that have gone this road before and others are in ROTC units working with Cadets so this is a great resource. I hope it works out for you,
