January 4, 2011 AROTC Board

My girlfriend is attend Southern Oregon University and is trying for an ROTC scholarship, the Kernel at that school mentioned if she did not receive the traditional ROTC scholarship she could still be an active ROTC cadet and most likely be put on an ROTC scholarship. I would be interested in hearing some of the details about this, because it is possible I will not be getting an Army ROTC scholarship from the next board.

Really strange for this thread to be so far down the page......kind of sad, end of an era and all that. I still think there should have been t-shirts for all of us that survived the AROTC January 4th Board.:yllol:

Good news

We did survive and we will continue to survive. Although DS doesn't read the forum postings he will remember "Ohioparent" for a very long time.

Colleagues: I am on the road this week and can't keep up with this thread. However, something has been really bugging me and I was hoping if anyone can settle this for me.

Shortly before the DoDMERB website went down, DS noticed that his status changed to include AROTC. I have two questions about this:

1. Did anyone else notice this change on their DoDMERB page who did not receive an AROTC scholarship???

2. Did anyone receive notification of an AROTC scholarship from the October board, but there was no prior DoDMERB change adding AROTC???

I expect very soon the DoDMERB website will be up again and people will see things like AROTC or NROTC or AFROTC on their webpage and the questions of "is this a good sign" will proliferate. I just wanted to see if the listing on DoDMERB is a good sign or not.

DS had "AROTC Qualified" message after Oct board results came out. From reading other posts, and one from Clarkson, it appears this was message had to do with already being DoDMERB qualed from a SA, and has nothing to do with getting a ROTC offer...

My DS was DoDMERB qualified for SA, but I can't figure out why AROTC would even bother inquiring with DoDMERB, and potentially waste DoDMERB's time, unless the AROTC board had already decided to award AROTC scholarship (DS did receive AROTC scholarship).

Let's see

I'm not sure I understand your exact question, however, DS did NOT apply to any SA. Did receive DoDMerb paperwork after first board, showed as DoDMerb qualified for AROTC first of January and received no offer from either of the first two boards. (I still assume first choice school requested DoDMerb paperwork in anticipation of national scholarship or because of campus based possibility but Clarkson said that would be unusual - but what isn't this year?)

I recall for our DS under DoDMERB it listed AFA and AFROTC. Again that was back in 08 so things may have changed.

Once my DS applied for the SA's and did the Dodmerb it showed up on the site. After he applied for the ROTC scholarships... it showed up later for the AROTC a week after the Jan board met and we never saw it for the AFROTC although he received both.

I have a quick question. My DS received the 4 yr AROTC and listed comp sci as his major but the offer letter says "engineering"

Does he have to change to an engineering major at that university?

I may be answering my own question researching it because it seems to fall under an engineering major when looking up engineering majors. So I think he's good since it just states "engineering " in general.

Thanks, paradoxer. When the DoDMERB site comes back up, we will know that that DoDMERB has no bearing on the ROTC question.

Lonely

I think this thread must be lonely after all the previous activity. Maybe it can marry the PhD placement thread I saw recently on another forum which had 234,000 views.

Pima is right, this is only the beginning of competing and waiting.

Just had to do it didn't you.

I may try to keep it on the first page for those newcomers for 2016 - until I'm motivated enough to either finish the index or figure out some way to tag significant post for easy search engine finding. There is a lot of good info for those willing to read it thru. If you know how to tag or have ideas for the indexing post here or PM me.

Should we add a note that this board was the saner of the 2011 boards? March had a potential government shut down in the works....and still no results. OH, well, thank goodness all the employees and our military will continue to work and be paid. Prayers for the overseas deployed that their minds can return to their business at hand knowing their familys are not facing financial ruin for political gain here at home.
