Does anyone know of early action candidates who received appointments in January? I still haven't heard anything from them and I'm worried that this may foreshadow a deferral letter next week on the 15th...

I'm in the same boat. I looked at last year's appointment thread and people received appointments as late as the fifteenth, but there were also people deferred that late. People also got deferred but then got their appointments a few days later. So, as bad as the waiting is-especially as it gets closer to the 15th-it's not necessarily going to be a deferral.

I actually feel better now. I honestly don't know if I can wait until March! The past few months have been miserable to say the least. It's almost impossible to get my hands off my phone to check for portal updates.

Haha yeah, I check every day. But I read in one of the threads here that it's better to hear a "yes" in March than a "no" in January, so I'm trying to use that to relax a bit. Plus at least people have stopped asking if I've heard anything by now!

I definitely agree...it means there's still hope! People literally ask me everyday if I have heard anything so I totally understand that feeling. It also seems like a lot people got deferred last year because they did not have nominations on file by Jan 15th...

Our DS was also EA and heard 12/15 that he was being deferred to regular decision in March.. He has not rec'd a nomination to USAFA as of yet so unless he gets a nomination, USAFA is out of reach.
He has recieved a nom for USNA and is hoping for that BFE with an appointment in the next month or so. He's been accepted to three plan C schools where he knows he'll be an ROTC programmer if scholarship doesn't come through.

If commision is the goal, there are lots of ways down that path.

It is better to hear a Yes in March than a NO right now, so be sure to understand that deferral is not a NO, it's a maybe. Especially if you already have a nomination.

    Good Luck!

Haha, we need to start a waiting club! Honestly, I am going nuts right now! Couldn't sleep last night thinking about what the 15th of January might bring! Do y'all have any nominations yet? I have an MOC nomination so I'm hoping that improves my chances of EA but we'll see! I get asked every single day whether or not I have heard anything, yet, as well. I very much appreciate the well-wishers, but it is starting to give me anxiety!
Good luck to you guys and hopefully all of us will get some good news on Thursday!!!

I definitely agree with you about the Waiting club! I have a presidential, AFJROTC, and MOC nomination. I've been working out to avoid reaching for my phone to check my email every second. I need to find myself a hobby! Haha.

Wow! You should have no worries! My problem is that I am in online school, so I continually get nervous and check the admissions portal several times per day every time I think about USAFA, since I am always at my computer! It's so difficult waiting to hear if everything you have worked for for YEARS will produce the desired result! I mean, this is my DREAM, the thing I have wanted and worked for more than anything else in my entire life! I am sure you feel the same way! All we can do now is wait and try not to go crazy!!!

I have an MOC nomination as well, and yes, it definitely helps our odds! All of my nomination sources did competitive instead of principle nomination though.

Mine did competitive instead of principle as well. Even though I was thrilled to receive a MOC nomination, I couldn't help feeling disappointed of no principle nomination.

Haha, thanks! But I have heard of candidates in the past who were still denied appointments even with that many nominations (or even more) so I'm going to be on my toes until I hear a definite yes or no! I totally understand where you're coming from. I need to block the portal site from Chrome or something haha.

Wow, congrats on the presidential! It's my understanding that if your 3q'd and presidential, those are the best odds you could hope for as far as Early Action goes.
I'm out of high school and working an office job, so I check all the time! Can't wait for classes to start up again and distract me.

    Thank you so much!
Distractions are a definite must at this point! I recommend Pinterest and Tumblr for those seeking some.
My biggest concern at this point is my ACT score because they are a bit below average. I know the Academy emphasizes the holistic view, but I still have an iffy feeling all the time.

I feel the same way as you; My ACT wasn't great. My composite was 30, but in math and science I got 27 and 26, respectively. Hoping my 33 in Reading and 35 in English, as well as a high GPA and class rank will help balance that out though. Also my CFA was less than stellar, although I know I passed.
I am so happy for everyone who gets accepted and sees their dream fulfilled, but I have to admit it's like getting stabbed in the gut every time a new name appears in the appointment thread, knowing I am STILL waiting!
I distract myself with this forum, I am logged on all the time and refresh the page between classes. Without it, I think I would be insane!!!

I got a 26 in science as well! That portion of the test was just impossible for me. Luckily, I believe the Academy weighs your Verbal/Math the most and you got near perfect scores in English and Reading. :)
At this point, I think we just need to accept the fact that the ship has sailed, and let the wind do the steering. It's out of our hands! Might as well enjoy life as we wait. Best of luck to everyone competing for an appointment! I hope we will all see each other at BCT!

I agree; it is out of our hands! That is the part that makes me nuts, though! Nothing more I can do but wait! I hope the admissions board will be gentle, considering all of our hopes and dreams are in their hands now. Definitely hope to see you all in BCT!!! Wouldn't it be great if we can be classmates!

There used to be a yearly 'mailbox stalkers thread'. Perhaps this should now be a 'web stalker thread'.

If we have not heard anything at this point, is it safe to assume we will hear a "no" on the 15th?
