Same article they showed us. We've already begun doing mock APRT to see how the new test looks and how the events work. Still waiting for standards to be refined and released, but should kick in by 1 Oct.

So, if my DS starts school in August, will he take the old test standards or will they wait until October to test using the new standards? Is the timing up to the discretion of each school?

He will take whatever test they tell him to take. There is very little guidance regarding when and how the new test will be implemented. Come to school physically fit and there should be no issues. If you can pass an APFT comfortably there should be no worries. Future cadets have all summer to make that happen!

My father was in the military for 32 years. My husband, for 10. Obviously, I realize he will do what he is told.

He will come to school fit and prepared for whatever they throw at him, I was just curious about the process. Isn't that what this message board is all about? Being able to ask questions and get thoughtful answers?

I do appreciate the guidance I have gotten so far. Not everyone knows the system. That's why we are looking here.

Was that not a thoughtful answer? I'm not one to pontificate about what might be, or fuel the anxiety regarding things the children of parents can't control. Just succinct advice and information. Sorry if I came across as anything other than helpful. Just glad I don't have to worry about laundry marks for towels and washclothes at Field Training.

The first and last "military" experience AFROTC folks will have!

There's no overarching guidance on the test yet. I can tell you that most real units really couldn't care less. There will be a significant break-in period. I mean, heck, we're giving people 4 years to transition to wearing a uniform they should already own.

This case, more of lack of information than anything else. Some of us often forget that what we understand naturally based on our years experience might not be so easy to understand by folks with different background.

We asked specifically for the requirements during a recent battalion visit. DD was told the list would be mailed (with no specific timeframe).

DD started circuit training yesterday to increase lung capacity and general strength. I guess the best thing is to take the general advice "be fit and ready", as it's about the only 'known' right now.

As an aside - for the application process last year, DD's test was the 2 mile, 2 minute situps and 2 minute pushups; then, had to do it again at 1 mile, and 1 minute each of the others (thankfully, different times!!! LOL).

Good luck to all you 2012 high school graduates entering the ROTC (and other academies). For most other grads, they are "winding down" in school and sports activities - but not for you. Your eyes, and actions are already on the path you have chosen, and there is no time to rest!!!! Amazing.
