Letters of Assurance.

There could be some convoluted thinking along the lines of “The SA gave the candidate an LOA, so they can ‘find a nom’ for him or her from somewhere if they really want to. I won’t waste one of mine.”

Which begs the question: Why would an MOC not nominate a candidate who is certain of gaining an appointment? The MOC even received a notification that the candidate has received an LOA directly from the academy. There's a reason that the MOC does not nominate such a candidate.

That's a great mystery-- my State is not super competitive, and I think the MOC's do a pretty good job picking the right Candidates. The one candidate I mentioned looked good on paper...so there must have been something that turned all three MOC off (or he didn't apply to all three..thinking he had it made). I really don't think it was someone thinking they won't waste the nomination as CAPT MJ suggested - I know that my Senator's coordinate their nominations and at least one would have given him the Nom.

Have any LOAs gone out for the Class of 2025? I know there are a lot of issues with the system change. Wondering if the Academy will issue any and possibly when? A parent on here said their son received an LOA (for a different class) in August ! 💪🏻

I have not seen any LOAs or appointments yet this year. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened, we just haven’t heard of it here. If a candidate is only applying to USNA I do not think they would be 3Q yet for an appointment. Mr. Mullins mentioned that USNA just provided names last week for DoDMERB. Obviously many candidates apply to multiple SAs and could have their physical already completed.

That was a real outlier, the one in August from a previous class. Typically we see a few starting in the fall. It ALL depends on who and how many from the class are posting on SAF, so there is no way to extrapolate what the usual flow is.

Consider the LOA to be like a unicorn standing under a triple rainbow wearing Harry Potter’s special invisibility cloak. If you see it, great, fortunate you, but you can’t plan to find it or hunt it down. The majority of midshipmen and cadets do not get one.

Oh, between the pandemic and implementing a new system ... they have their hands full. Was just curious ...
DD is head down, task mastering. And waiting .
