March Army ROTC Board

DS status changed today from contact PM for interview to:
You may check your medical qualification status by visiting the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board DoDMERB WebSite

I guess that means he might be offered a scholarship?

I can you that is the first change we saw on my son's page when he was awarded the scholarship in January!

Congrats!

Your wait is over.
Since he was a SA applicant he already has his PE approved. No worries or waiting there.

I did read that USAFA will make their final determinations by the end of March. Maybe that has something to do with our wait. Perhaps the other SA's have similar timelines.

I wonder if what PapaBear received was a campus based scholarship based on the story. Either way it's fantastic news for them!

maybe that's why no one else has seen an update. Maybe the national scholarships from the March board haven't been input into the system yet.

What exactly is a campus scholarship? Because my PMS had me write and sign a letter saying I wanted a 4 year Army ROTC scholarship and then use that scholarship at A&M.

PapaBear, if you are in Texas, you probably received a "Texas Armed Services Scholarship". My daughter received one earlier this week.

http://www.texasarmedservicescholarships.com/

"The Texas Armed Services Scholarship has been created to assist promising students from throughout the state who are committed to education and service. It encourages young leaders to participate in the Texas Guard, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard, or to become commissioned officers in the United States armed services."

To be eligible, a student must meet academic criteria including:

• Be on track to graduate high school in a Distinguished Achievement Program or International Baccalaureate program
• A GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Ranked in the top third of the graduating class
• SAT score of 1590 or ACT score of 23

To receive the scholarship, a student must:

• Be appointed by a state representative or state senator or by the Governor or Lieutenant Governor. (Each member of the Legislature may make one appointment to receive one of the first scholarships. The Governor and Lt. Governor may make two appointments.)
• Enroll in an eligible Texas institution and an eligible ROTC program.
• Commit in writing to:
- Remain in ROTC for four years.
- Graduate within five years.
- Enter Guard service or accept a commission with the armed services within six months of graduation from college.
• Meet program physical fitness requirements.

Congratulations on your scholarship!

I just spoke with a lady at Cadet Command to inquire about my son's status and she informed me that results will be out by 31 March.

Can someone please explain the process to me. I emailed the PMS at my sons school of choice and asked about Campus based scholarships and National scholarships.

The answer I received was this "I know that the March board results are to be released from cadet command any day. I also know that I offered him a 4 yr scholarship through cadet command. That is all the information that I have at this time. I hope this will help your decision. "

I spoke with Cadet command and she informed me that she did not have anything on my son and a scholarship from Cadet Command. Can someone please explain the process to me.

I think I may be able to explain why the disconnect between CC and the PMS.

Goaliegirl received 2 different campus-based scholarships from 2 different units. One of them showed up on the "check the status of your scholarship" page. The other did not. Both units sent the identical form for her to sign. The ROO from the unit whose offer showed up online was not aware that the other unit had offered goaliegirl a scholarship until the ROO from that other unit called him.

What this tells me is that campus-based scholarships can be notified through Cadet Command, but they don't have to be. I think in your son's case, the campus-based scholarship is not being notified through Cadet Command.

BTW, she accepted the one that was not posted online and to this day it still doesn't show up online.

In any event, congratulations. :thumb:

Let's hope taht is the case Goaliedad. I contacted the OMS back and told him what the Cadet Command said. he jsut emailed me and said there was something wrong at Cadet Command and he was going to work on that!! let's hope!!!!!!:shake:

Thanks for the information Angelwhorns.
I emailed my CC contact and have not received a reply concerning the March board results.

Hang in there-
One more week. I never thought one week could seem so agonizing.
Out of all his friends our son is the last to know where he's going to school in the Fall-you almost want to say forget it and just make up your own mind about your future-almost-

My son was accepted on his interview back in August, so he was probably the first to know of his class. He hit "senior slump" back in the fall! At least for your son he keeps working hard.

I think I'm wearing out the number keypad.
