March Army ROTC Board

Status

Is the change in status posted where the application was originally submitted or through general email. Just want to make sure my son is looking in the correct place.

My son's school choices were posted this morning and it listed his top 5 schools.
Wooo hoooo

He definitely wants to attend RIT, so now we just wait for snail mail.:thumb:

Congrats!

when did his status change?

I didn't think they had updated the March AROTC scholarships yet. You're lucky to find out the schools offered so quickly.

Congrats again!

Last week his status changed from the "schedule an interview" to "you can check your status " and I had emailed his point of contact at CC. She told me that he had indeed received a scholarship, but that she wasn't authorized to give us anymore information until the official letters went out today.
We checked first thing this morning (around 6 am) and all 5 schools were listed.

Good luck to all of you waiting!

Offered Scholarship

The Army web site is now update and my son has been offered a scholarship to Drexel or Rutgers :thumb::shake:

We are almost positive he will be disqualified for medical :frown:, but it feels great to have him accepted. It hopefully means he can enroll at Rutgers and next year re-apply and get a 3 year scholarship after being off medication for a year.

Good Luck to all still awaiting news!

That's wonderful. And to have 5 choices is fantastic!

Congrats again.

Son received 4 year to his second choice but not to first. Can he talk to the PMS at his first choice - or it mute?

Contact the PMS at his first choice. Let them know that this is choice #1. Inquire if there are any scholarships left there.

They may not have any allocations left which is why he didn't receive one there. It doesn't mean that one won't open but for now they may be all filled.

DS's Application Status screen updated this morning to show schools he recieved the scholarship to.

I hope that wasn't it last week.
How disheartening for the rest of us-

I'm guessing that was it. One more chance with the April Board. Keeping fingers crossed for my son!

He's planning to enroll in ROTC regardless of whether or not he gets the scholarship and his PMS knows that - he came right out and asked him during his interview. I'm now thinking that he should have just said he would be considering it. I think his PMS might have thought that my son was a shoe-in, and the scholarship would be better served going to a kid who was on the fence about ROTC.

patience

The system is a mystery to me. I wonder how many thousands of hits per day the site gets just because their isn't a clearly defined timetable? CC told someone "by the 31st". So does that mean all are posted at once? Or do they enter them in batches?

Tina, I'm not so sure about that.
I know the various schools compete against each other for the best candidates.
They can see where the young men interview at, and my son keeps getting messages from a LT Col at his third choice school (where he is not keen on attending).
The major at the first choice school who interviewed really probed about why he was applying for a scholarship, because he said "there's a lot of guys applying for the wrong reasons".
So why not award to the best, brightest and MOST committed?
Mine has wanted to do this since he was a little boy, God bless him

And all them!

Info from CC

So, I just spoke with my son's POC. She said that the updates to the system from the March Board will be completed April 1st, and that the next and final Board review begins next week, April 5-9. Final notification of awards will be made by May 31st. They only notify those who have been awarded scholarships.

Good luck everyone!

Good info, thanks for passing it on.

Found out I got a scholarship to a school, not my first choice though. I contacted the PMS at the school I received the scholarship at and he told me to accept it and later this month (April) or early May I can request to have it changed to the school I am attending. Both schools are private and the one I will be attending does ROTC out of the school I got the scholarship at (it's the "mother" school I guess). Do you think my odds are good to have them grant my request? The schools are equal in pricing for the most part and not too many students participate in ROTC at the school I am attending. Thanks guys and congrats to all, and most of all hang in there those waiting for the April board!
