Marines outwit AI - this is comical

... so this is a dilemma every training rotation at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC). The commander and/or unit decides whether to win the war games or practice real, live combat tactics. Winning war games makes you look good in evaluations at the expense/opportunity of realistic training. If just focusing on real live combat tactics, then it will pay off dividends in actual combat. Winning wargames at JRTC requires trickery to throw off the adversary. Starting small fires in a cathole would appear as engines in the enemy's thermals. Shooting the enemy with MILES laser gear 2-3 feet to the left or right guarantees a "kill."

I love the fact that they came up with such a variety of ways without a ton of effort. It wasn't four months of research, just some guys trying stuff, under-thinking rather than over-thinking the challenge. Even as a computer guy I adore it when these huge, sophisticated systems are finally running and their immaturity and brittleness are exposed in such a whimsical way. The Rise Of The Machines is usually a few years further away than we think.

Look here mister, officers don't eat crayons!

We prefer Prismacolor pencils. More flavors for our discerning tastes, you see.
