Quick question... I received a LOA in the mail this past week. I am curious about one thing at USMA---I will have taken Calc I-IV, AP stats, differential equations and linear algebra coming in---will there be any further requirements? Planning on doing a chemistry major, and don't have much of a desire to do more math. HS senior here.

You received an LOA or an LOE?

You will likely be able to place into higher math sections, but you still likely have DDS, Calc II, and Stats ahead of you.

I validated the beginning math course and I'm now in multivariable calc. If you do well in the placement testing you will probably be placed into multivar calc, unless you took THAT as well and take the placement test, then you could be placed into Advanced Calc II. You will still have to take stats as ScoutPilot said, but trust me, it's a true blessing to have already taken some of these classes in HS, esp. physics + chemistry. Makes it so much easier.

I think y'all misread his post. He has already taken all of calculus and differential equations. I would suspect you would have to take only statistics and economics.

Your suspicions would be incorrect. You can only test into a higher level math class. It isn't like civilian colleges where you can be considered as having completed the courses. One will always end up doing some calculus at the academies.

Kinnem, you're right on the testing out part. I'm currently in MA153 which is the advanced math skipping one semester of calculus, and someone in my academic year company is a plebe already taking differential equations, so he has only one semester of math left next semester, statistics. So if my classmate down the hall from me was able to place out of all calculus and go straight into differential equations, I do no know why someone would not be able to validate that as well. I'll ask my instructor about it tomorrow.

I placed out of Diff EQ and took MA153, but he should still take 255. Did they make Diff EQ a yuk class?

scoutpilot, The plebe who is currently in Diff EQ is in an all yuk class. But yes, MA255 is a plebe course. His course is titled something else.
