    I am sure it must be self explanatory, but I have noticed a few posters with a red "banned" across their icon. Is this put on by the moderator and does it mean that the poster is questionable? I searched and saw a few people mentioning they doubted the advice of anyone banned on here, but I couldn't find a definite reason for banning.

    How does a poster get "banned" and how or do they ever get blocked? Just curious.

    Mods can ban someone for either violating the site terms of service or for other examples where they consistently make inappropriate posts, are needlessly argumentative, belligerent toward other participants, etc.. In the past there used to be a temporary ban (few weeks/months?) vs permanent. A mod can comment further on the latest practices. If someone is banned, it means they can no longer post here.

    Postings made by someone banned can still be viewed, particularly when doing a site search.

    When someone makes a new post on a very old topic, you might also see the 'banned' reference somewhere within that thread (banned person may already be long gone from here). It is generally best to start a new thread when asking a question vs tacking on to a very old one and that is one of the reasons why.

    Thank you for the question.

    Posters can be banned for a variety of reasons, all relating to not following the rules of the forum. Based on user feedback, we recently added the "Banned" banner to delineate said users. It should be noted that the "Banned" banner does not currently differentiate between temporarily and permanently banned members.

    Please let me know if we can clarify further.

    Banned = time out.
    Permanent Ban = voted off the island.
