Heard from my ds that a "large" portion of his Metro Prof's students failed the final. This is true for my ds who said he passed the course but since he failed the final he must retake the final . . . . . I'm real confused.

On a separate note, if this is true, and after reading the previous thread concerning Physics, I have to wonder what is going on in the Academics Dept.

Its not a big deal...i'd say close to about a quarter of kids in the 3 sections that had meteo failed the final (got below a 70, must get at least a 70 to be stcw qualified). Your DS passed the class which is the most important thing at the moment. All your DS needs to do is go and talk to the professor to reschedule a time where he can retake the stcw qualifying final. From what the professor said, its only 20 questions over a certain chapter that he tells you. Talk to any upperclassmen that failed it and they will tell you it is not a big deal and nothing to really worry about.

By hook or by crook, by accident or with a well thought out purpose, the academic department is putting these M/N and Plebes through rigor and challenges that will definitely provide opportunities to reduce the ranks this Trimester.

Our guy is on the bubble with two classes and MUST do well on every final to come out alive. Physics started out being the most challenging, then the focus became Terr Nav. Started Terr Nav overconfident and, bang, two labs graded during the first week or two of the Tri put him WAY behind the "eightball" I think he said he made a 20 and a 30. Really shook him up. Lesson learned; "Verify you know what you are doing before turning in work - especially in a brand new and unknown subject area." Funny thing is he really likes the Prof, likes the subject, and knows his grade average does not reflect what he knows and does not represent how he is able to perform. Now - keyword; Now- not during the first week. Typical story for some, I would imagine.

He has since performed solidly with 80's and 90's. However, the average ended up being 70 going in to the final. He told us last night, the CDR/Prof for the course has not yet graded the final exam taken Monday. Anxious time.

2013Parent - Sounds like our two ought to be roommates. My favorite quote is ours is having to pull a "rabbit out of the hat" to survive this Tri. Fortunately, he looks pretty close to doing it

Final grades

Does anyone know if the final grades will be posted before the students leave campus Friday evening? My plebe was anxious about his Calc2 final but since he took it Monday I'm hoping he has the results before coming home.

panicked phone call lat night from our plebe about Physics today. It wil be over soon. he also would love to know about calc before he leaves.

i emailed my Calc II prof (Dr Weber) and he had the grades ready and sent me mine, im not sure about the other instructors. Physics we definitely wont know about for awhile. Exam was tricky, sounds like some classes were more well-prepared than others.:frown:
