DS said that KP is now charging for the mids to use the washing machines and dryers - $1.25 for each load. Do the other academies have their students paying for using the washing machines and the dryers?

At USAFA their laundry is done for them freshman year, but it's all deducted from their pay. Now that my son is a 3/c he has to do his own laundry, and yes, I was surprised that they have to pay for the machines just like at a normal school. He does his laundry at his sponsor's whenever he can and that will probably be easier next year when he has a car, but I guess they do pay for it there at least.

At West Point, every cadet is req'd to pay ~$40 a month for a laundry/dry cleaning service. The service has a reputation for losing clothes, though, so many cadets opt not to use it and wash their laundry in one of the two laundry rooms in the barracks ($2.25 to wash and dry). Corps squadders have the option of having their clothes washed in Corps Squad facitilites for free.

The laundry service we pay for our of our cadet account whether you use it or not. That's the service where you send out your laundry and they will do it for you although quality isn't as good as doing it on your own

The dryers/washers that are in the basements of the barracks, we have to pay to use like at a normal school as well.

edit - lotrjedi13 got in quicker then I did lol

So here is the full scoop, long term DOT is trying to get rid of student fees. Mids used to pay for the machines and for the fold and dry service in there student fees. However it's cheaper for DOT to use the off campus service so that is the direction they are pushing mids. Drop your clothes off, they come back folded the next day (except for Sunday) and they come back cleaner then the on campus machines.

About $30 gets deducted a month from our cadet pay, but we use the laundry facilities in our barracks and fold our own laundry. I wouldn't want anyone messing with my stuff anyway, so I think our system works out nicely.

Man, it's terrible how memory fades. I remember doing laundry on "0" deck of Palmer Hall, but I don't remember if we had to feed the machines.

I do remember getting stuck for leaving it in the washer or dryer after taps.
