Missing F35

From the internets -Wash Post. “The aircraft’s transponder, wasn’t working, further complicating the search. Gertler said that if the mishap leading to the pilot’s ejection was just after takeoff (an unknown at this time), the transponder “should’ve been readable even at low altitude, but that may have ceased on ejection. If it were higher, the remnants of the plane could have drifted farther, and again, it may not have had a transponder signal after the pilot punched out.”

The fighter’s stealthy skin is so effective that radar can’t locate them, said Gertler, “which is why they often fly with a small device called a Lunenberg lens attached to increase the radar signature.”

Reminds me of the F105's attachment on it's landing gear. See the yellow object with 353 on it.
What is that attachment ? Certainly not something to enhance radar signature...the F105 was HUGE (and besides, if mounted to nosegear, it wouldn't help when retracted)

Apparently it is, in fact, a radar reflector that was used only during landing approach. It seems that the Thud's signature from head-on was quite small.

Interesting..probably for Ground Controlled Approach (GCA) since it only shows when gear is down

I just watched a report, with witnesses who saw the plane flying before crashing, about 10” Ft above tree canopy, almost vertical. They heard a ‘boom’, but no fire. And didn’t think anything of it until they saw reports of missing jet the next day.

An interesting point, was that this aircraft is one of about 3, that have an ‘auto eject’ function. So perhaps a malfunction that included an auto eject.

It flew for about 30 minutes after pilot eject.

Just saw a fighter jet flying oddly and then a boom… goes about their business like nothing happened. 😂

After the writers' strike is over, they are bringing back the JAG series and the JAG team flies a pair of F35s over Ukraine to help end the war. I know, I've spoiled the season Premier now.
I don't know...Harm's getting up there...kinda like a flag officer going flying...if there's not a family model, the world gets a tad nervous about them being solo.

This is all a ruse to get around congressional bickering. The plane is "lost", posted on Etsy as a "found collectable", sold to a Polish homemaker who loves hanging old aircraft around the house, and quietly deployed to Ukraine. Be on the lookout for an F35 maintenance squadron to go missing this week.
