Im really upset about this, and when he asked if I would be mad if he did I of course said no because its his choice not mine. I just looked on the ROTC website and it said some stuff about 8 years mandatory military service after graduation. All I can think about now is losing him. Can someone explain ROTC to me. thanks

The obligation to the Army can be completed various ways.

4 years Active Duty, 4 years Inactive Reserve (No weekend or summer drill)
If they are not on scholarship I believe it is 3 years Active Duty and 5 years Inactive Reserves
8 years Reserve (One weekend a month and two weeks a year minimum)
8 years National Guard (Same as Reserve)

Can't really help you with your other concerns.

So she could start this thread instead of Googling it or doing some research herself?

UM no aglages, you can start a thread without hitting every other thread.

Now going with the idea that they are not a troll and see some sick sense of humor by messing around here, let's answer the question.

As an AF O5 retired F15E WSO wife, and a Mom of a C130 AF pilot that were ROTC commissioned I have to say one thing.

You as a spouse will always be the mistress and the military will be their spouse.

I don't get the losing him issue. Fate is fate. Destiny is destiny. You have just as much of a risk losing him in the military as you do him driving on the highway.

Take the time and Google. Yes, we lost thousands of soldiers over the last past decade, but if you look at it, there were a lot less deaths in the military than car accidents, shootings, etc.

YES Pima....on THIS site that may be true. Hence the occasional spammer that manages to post....temporarily. It is not the case on the forums of many other sites. My "guess" was that she thought she needed X number of replies before she could start a new thread. How else to explain all the bumps one after another FINALLY ending in her question? My reply was directed to the question of WHY? I understand your theory was that she did it in order to PM someone. Perhaps you're correct and after she sent her PM she decided to start this new thread. Maybe she'll actually come back and tell us?

Either way....I'm sure your military wife and mother experience will provide invaluable insight to what ROTC is and her fears of possibly losing her boyfriend.

    Easier said than done

The Marines aren't customarily the first ones you go to for advice on personal relationships. But in case you haven't yet worked things out with your ROTC-bound boyfriend, you could do worse than heed the Marines of the Essex.

It was number 1 for a couple of weeks so it had to have something going for it.

MSFaygo, obviously you have too much time on your hands. On the other hand, apparently so do I. How bout these?
