This thread has devolved and now reminds me of attending a little league baseball game and parents screaming at the Ump

My thoughts are the same. Parents need to grow up themselves. Life is not fair

I once anxiously watched and read hoping for some kids to get picked up. It’s now nothing about its intention. Sad

Yep enough of the “Lots wife” routine…

@blhenrywalpole - I believe you made a reference (a few pages back) to this year's NAPS class being small. How is that being defined and what is the source of the data? What is this year's actual number and what is it compared to - last year's class or to a historical average? Since none of us truly knows the number(s), I was also wondering about your source for the data and if that's sharable with us. If NAPS produces a class profile document, similar to USNA, I think that would be interesting to see.
The source is from the folks directly at NAPS. You can call 401-841-6966 and ask Ms. Andrade, Mr. Andrew or Dr. Malloy directly if you want to verify. About two weeks before I-Day, the number was at 268.

NAPS does not produce a class profile. The class profile produced by USNA shows the number of appointments to USNA from NAPS. It does not show the total number that received appointments to NAPS. Remember, NAPS is comprised of midshipman candidates for USNA, BOOST (NROTC), and cadet candidates for USCGA.

Does the remodeling project of Bancroft have any bearing on the decision?

What is the source of @blhenrywalpole's statements that a NAPSter quit the first day and two more are quitting tomorrow? There has been no mention of such things on the NAPS 2024 Parents Only FB. Also, the FB administrator was surprised to hear of these statements as she is pretty well plugged in to the school. @blhenrywalpole never answered if he/she has a child at NAPS as only parents of current NAPSters can subscribe to the Facebook they he/she claims to have seen.
If you have a child at NAPS, this Sunday during your call, ask him or her if what I wrote was correct.

Again, one quit on Day 1 and two quit this past Monday. If you are a member of the FB NAPS 2023 Parents Only group, you should easily to able to verify what I quoted the other day from a mother whose daughter said she too wanted to quit. There are similar comments on there as well. Feel free to go and check that as well to verify what I wrote is accurate.

@blhenrywalpole's, @Kentucky9's and @rvrratt1's posts are bitter, angry, disrespectful and mean spirited. They show reluctance to take responsibility for their own actions, as they believe that they are always the victim of some rigged system. If they were truly happy and contented with their son's Plan Bs they would not be on this forum whining and griping about how "unfair" their son did not get appointed to either the USNA or NAPS. If one did not know better, one could mistake them for Russian social media trolls.

Like my cousin Smokey Bear sez: time to put this fire out, pour a bucket of water on it and stir the ground.

Now where do I get a maple bacon scotch on the rocks?
After you verify on the FB page and ask your child if what I wrote is correct, I just ask you come back and acknowledge what I wrote was true. After all, being labeled a Russian troll is a tactic used by the likes of corrupt politicians to smear others. If you are now employing that tactic, I would like you to come back and apologize after you verify what I wrote.

Thanks in advance.

I am so confused. Do you have a child at NAPS? Or a midshipman at USNA?

My intuition is that someone who quits on day one or two didn't want to be there in the first place, which IMO is a different issue/problem than being a quitter. Quitting implies starting; these folks didn't meaningfully do that. I suspect that is also factored into selection numbers, but it's otherwise, I imagine, a difficult variable to ferret out in the application process if the applicant is saying all the right words.
Again, I don't fault the Academy. They offer appointments to qualified applicants.

I fault the kids themselves for accepting something they clearly were not "all in" for. (Interestingly, the USAFA Prep School makes you even sign a memorandum for the record committing that you are "all in".)

rvrratt1 said:

.. but this kid wants it has poured the foundation since he was a child. Grrrrr ..

WHY, so he can/will succeed and not quit !!!

Just irks me he had to be waitlisted until mid June .. to only hear others quit.

First, there is no evidence provided on this forum of anybody quitting NAPS, yet. There will be about 10% who will eventually DOR from now til June, but no confirmed DORs in the first 6 days. - I have asked @blhenrywalpole for solid evidence and all I hear is silence. @blhenrywalpole made these accusations and went on a rant about quitters with @Kentucky9 piping in, too. Then @rvrratt1 piled on today (see above quotes). If you are not trolls then stop acting like them and let go, just let it go. Your kids have their Plan B, concentrate on that and them. I am positive if they knew what you all have been saying on this forum they would tell you to stop bitter, angry, disrespectful and mean spirited.
...... I replied with an expression, Grrrr and the word Irk. Seriously, I'm neither any of the following and clearly not a troll .... Carry on ~ we have!

*bitter, angry, disrespectful and mean spirited.

*believe that they are always the victim of some rigged system

*whining and griping about how "unfair"

*Russian social media trolls.

Send me the screenshots or reference the FB comment to my SA email of where it is stated one quit last Monday and two, yesterday. I am a member of the FB page and have read the comments multiple times and no statements were made. Yes, some parents mentioned their kids crying and having a hard time but no one DORing. My issue with you and the others is you are not blaming the Academy. No, you are blaming the kids. Also, you started by stating that kids have DORed without any solid evidence that it was the case after 5 days of INDOC. Indicates you are spreading false rumors and using them to grind your axe.

The parents of the one who quit on Tuesday (I-Day, which was not on Monday), and then the two yesterday did not post about it on the FB page. That is why I wrote if you have a kid at NAPS, you will need to ask him / her to verify what I said was correct. It was all the talk amongst them last week.

And again, if you are on that FB parents' page, I quoted a mother who wrote the following after her call on Sunday. She wrote, "Not the call I was expecting. My daughter wants to quit. I hope she’s getting support and she said she was talking to a counselor. She’s really homesick." In the comment section, you can read a few more similar to that one as well.

Once you verify what I have written is correct, please come back and acknowledge the truthfulness of my post, as well as retracting your smear tactic of labeling me a Russian troll.

Good day Sir.

I'm sorry that poster insulted and smeared you like that.

Your posts are great and I congratulate you and your son again. I know he will do great things!

  • If the parents did not post it where did you get the information?
  • Also, why will you not answer if you have a child at NAPS or USNA?
  • Your quote from the Mother of the child who was unhappy is just that. The kids emotional state at the time of the call. Not a fact they plan to quit and actually go through with it.

Kids leave NAPS. Some leave that first day.

The only ones shocked at that must have no previous contact with NAPS. It’s a truly miserable and hard place.

This thread has turned into a disgusting attack on kids, some of who came here for advice, some who may be reading now.

and these kids found out they could not deal with stress like they had never felt before.

Congrats to those that at least tried. The adults hiding behind screen names attacking these kids are troll like. It’s disgusting behavior.

On Point - griping about the USNA application and selection process etc is fine. We all know how frustrating the Academy and its processes are. And the selection process!

But the denigrating and bashing of 17, 18, 19-year-old "kids" is reprehensible. And the spreading of unsubstantiated rumors is toxic.

  • If the parents did not post it where did you get the information?
From NAPS. That is why I asked you to ask your own kid if you have one there. If you do, they will surely mention it. Again, it was all the talk amongst them last week.
  • Also, why will you not answer if you have a child at NAPS or USNA?
Because it's none of your business. Perhaps when you retract and apologize for your smear tactic of accusing me of being a Russian troll, I will reconsider.

I guess you forgot that what I quoted from that Mother was in response to your post regarding the FB Parents' page, whereby you wrote:

"I did not read of anyone saying their DS/DD was quitting." - You

That post I quoted proved otherwise.

What about bashing parents as Russian trolls?

Also, when you verify my posts, I trust you will return to apologize.

"Don't give up the ship."

"I have not yet begun to fight."

"Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead, Drayton!"

Today: "You can always just quit. No harm, no foul. After all, you earned the right to quit. Congratulations for at least trying. Here's a participation trophy."
