Besides those who have already posted about receiving NAPS appointments, has anyone heard of any Foundation appointments or have those not been decided yet?

DS will be a Foundation student. He received an email a week or two ago, there are at least 25 students that have been selected for Foundation sponsorship.

I concur, 25 foundation offers made with an expected total of 50 as per Alumni Foundation program office

    The main differences are:

Pay- You enlist in the Navy Reserve and get paid quite a bit of money

Benefits- Since you are a part of the military you get the benefits (commissary, PX privileges)

Environment- You live in a military environment unlike a Foundation Prep student who goes to school at a regular university/college

Those are all the differences between the two that I can currently think of right now. If anyone has more please chime in.

Pay part, Not so much. They have to pay for all there uniforms and bunches of other stuff. They defiantly make more then the MIDs at the USNA, but "Quite a bit of money", no.

If my son is offered a foundation spot, does he pick the foundation school or is assigned a school?

He will be asked to select a primary and at least one backup. Most get their first choice. Obviously, everyone can't pick the same school (which is why they ask for more than one choice), but this usually doesn't happen.

Thanks for the quick reply USNA1985. My son is a junior and we are scheduling a trip to visit NAPS and a couple of the foundation schools in New England and didn't want to waste our time if we didn't have a say in the matter.

I was USNA '92 through NAPS which served me extremely well and my NAPSter classmates became my best friends both at NAVY and throughout my career.

Why are you focusing on NAPS/Foundation at this point?
