I recently attached the summer stem program as a rising sophomore and absolutely loved it!
I now also want to go to nass in two years. I and am wondering if I applied and went to stem again next year, would that hurt my chances at getting into nass?

I am unsure if I should apply due to the fact the the naval academy summer programs are largely based on outreach, and I have already been “reached”.

Thank you

I hear that, a lot. My son attended 2 STEM camps and was admitted to NASS last year. So I’d say go for it!

If you can afford it, why not? I would prefer a nice family vacation - my son didn’t go to any camps or seminars.

It doesn’t help your application. Is there something else you would enjoy that could help your application?

I agree with A1 Janitor. I would recommend finding some other summer activities to expand your résumé especially with opportunities to engage with and lead others. NASS, itself, is unique and the application initiates your pursuit of a USNA appointment when you become a junior, so continue your plans to apply and perhaps attend a session. However, Boys or Girls State should also be on your 'list' of applications.

Then again, as noted, if you can 'do it all' then why not! I encourage my students to plan their summers. With good planning, you may find the time to attend the STEM camp again, the seminar and expand your résumé too. Good luck with you planning!

I attended STEM last summer, did a CVW this spring, and l also got into NASS this summer. I think the NASS invites work in mysterious ways, and for even more mysterious reasons that we will never be privy to. I do know that when you’re standing on the grounds for plebe summer, a lot of people around you will not have gone to NASS, but they’ll still be there with you. Don’t panic if you don’t get NASS.

If you’re also interested in applying to other academies, next summer might be a good time to try out a camp at one of them too. Good luck!

Check out the SAME Stem camps maybe next year...they have a session at USAFA. The SAME posts sponsor half to all of the program cost so it's a bit cheaper and a great experience. More civil engineering than you got at USNA Stem.
