Hi all,

Right now I'm trying to finalize my Plan B in the likely case that USAFA and USNA don't work out. I just got accepted to the University of Maryland which has both AFROTC and NROTC. I would love to be a pilot but if that does not work out (curse these eyes of mine ) I would like to try for a Nav slot. Does anybody know which branch has more slots for this specific job?

Thanks,

Kevster

I am assuming that both the AF and Navy have an equal amount of Nav slots. The question is do you want to land on a runway that doesn't move?

UMD has an excellent AFROTC det, I should know our DS opted this route at this school over the AFA. I also know a Mom who has a son at UMD in the NROTC program. The problem with NROTC at UMD is you have to go into DC for it, which can be a hassle when it comes to class scheduling, compared to being on campus like AFROTC.

At UMDCP the cadets even with eye issues that had PRK, have received UPT slots. 100% of those that requested got them for the class of 11. Jrs just found out last week.

Kevster,

The USAFA class of 2011 had 25 Nav slots available to them on their AFSC sheets (compared to 500 pilot slots). I don't know how many Nav slots that AFROTC had, but if they split them 50/50 like they do pilot slots, there would be about 50 Nav slots overall for the AF. You'd have to find out from a Navy person how many were available there.

The Navigator field is a dying one, says my teacher who is a navigator. They're being replaced by computers...

Packer is correct it is a dieing breed, even the heavies are replacing them with computers. Our DS is an 15E WSO's child, his 1st pick is UPT, but UNT is not his back up. His father and I are in full support of his decision.
