Navy-Army tickets

From Bing of all places

“In 2007, the stadium reached record capacity at 90,910 fans in a matchup with the Commanders' long time NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. Seating has since been reduced to 67,617 after”

Hack away about 8k seats for Mids/Cadets and figure there’s a lot of SRO seats to get to 62k.

And sure it’s a money grab, and while this isn’t going to help, it’s a high demand temporal event. The thing that irks me is that NAAA gave the impression that reasonably priced tickets would be available. They’re not. Just be upfront about it. Hence my being a fan of all in, demand based ticketing. Wanna know how much something is really going to cost? Hop on StubHub or better TickPick. The real question is “do I want a guaranteed seat and what will I pay” vs “I’m willing to take my chances at the last minute.” Add in the B&G stuff or preferred fan nonsense for concerts and it’s even more abstracted. And annoying. Just give me the all in price.

Note - not blaming NAAA or any band here, but at some point I do hope they understand the damage to the brand. Short term gain. If you knew it would cost 1200 for two seats you could save and make it happen. Instead, false hope and lingering anger.

(Says the guy who has seen over a 1000 concerts - the band, the team all use so many “tricks” instead of honestly/demand-based fair ways to price their tix.)

It was handled horribly by NAAA. There was no indication that it was a very limited sale plus they held it during the school day where the determining factor whether you got tickets was either if you had a free period or a cool professor. Given it was a limited sale, this what should have happened:

1. Anyone interested in tickets pay for their tickets
2. Hold ticket lottery
3. Refund those who didn’t get tickets

I genuinely do feel bad for parents, especially rising Firstie parents, who didn’t get tickets and haven’t attended before. Lots of Firstie leadership billets, marching on, up front. It really is a proud, amazing, spectacular ‘bucket list’ event. I hope parents have been able to attend a past game. And lower level classes can attend one in the future.

There hasn’t been this issue since I’ve been around with my Mids, 6 yrs. My guys have always responded to a brigade email and gotten tickets (other than the year there were 0 tickets for anyone bc of Covid). They did eventually run out, but it was nothing like this year, having to jump onto a crashed website, during classes, during finals tests. As such, some Mids were excluded from even being able to try. This WAS handled poorly.

I agree that a lottery system seems fair, honest and up front. And makes sense. Hopefully lessons were learned this year.

And one of those lessons is to parents: future tickets aren’t guaranteed. Go when you can. Don’t wait until your Mids Firstie year.

Tickets will be available on the secondary market. Start saving now if it’s important enough to you to pay that price. In my experience, going and participating in the events the host city puts on prior to the game (ie: Patriot Games), the camaraderie, and tailgating is all part of the event, and would still be something to experience even without going to the game!

It’s unfortunate it all went like it did this year. It’s a one-off in my experience here. Hopefully lessons are learned. And NAAA handles it better next time.

... so,

*Writing. I'm writing a formal memorandum Thru Superintendent For NAAA. No problem writing... pen is mightier than the sword. I've written to two U.S. Presidents and one Ukrainian President before.
- Superintendent - Let her know that there's a "cancer," USNA Ticket Office, in her ship, USNA.
- NAAA - All mighty dollar pursuit and parents - Mids be damned "concept" needs to go.

* Unprofessionalism of USNA Ticket Office. I have visited this hole twice. The gentleman was eating and did not stop eating while I was asking questions. As he responded, he was still eating while talking. The lady was cold and insensitive to parents and Mids. She was after the all mighty dollar. She reminded me of my DS's college counselor who notified USNA admissions that she could not verify the academic awards. The teachers gave awards to students not to her. She unceremoniously retired after my letter to the school headmaster. In March, I asked about the tickets. I was told to donate and I did offer the 3rd tier funds hoping to get the tickets on 19th April. On the 19th, I was told that the only way to buy tickets is to purchase the season tickets (bamboozled #1), so my donation was gone forever with no tickets. On the 30th (bamboozled#2), my DS was ordering the ticket while in class, so did some of his classmates. He was successful at first glance, with a receipt even, but then was revoked due to an error of his alpha number. I never asked DS for anything at the yard because he is extremely busy. But since the A-N Game is a once in a lifetime event(s), for me anyway, I need to at least mention what is going on with the ticket office. He texted me in real time while in class, "no worries Dad, I got creative." After the rejection and sold out within 15 minutes, he bought tickets from an outside vendor, while in class.

*All In. As parents, when our kid(s) was born, we are "all in" for unconditional love, for better or for worse, the tantrums, 0200 feedings, toilet training etc.
- I-Day. An emotional event... we're giving our kid(s) to USNA, the Nation, serving the Flag, protecting the Constitution. So we're "all in" in the concept of serving Honorably, despite the real Rollercoaster.
- So then the Shocker from USNA ticket office (bamboozled #3). Insensitive to parents and Mids. You need to donate over $1,000 dollars to get your tickets; and you only have 15 minutes to buy your tickets while in class or dentist appointments. They don't care to parents' concept of Service to the nation... only the mighty dollar ---> SHAME.

This ^^^^^. hard to believe we actually are 0-3 so far. But we have tickets for #4!

This is what needs to be fixed. Messaging was super poor. Bought into third tier knowing there was some risk, but then being told no tickets available unless you up to the next tier and buy season tickets. NAAA needs to fix this for next year. Again I chalk it up to a tuition payment. My DS only has one more A-N as a MIDN and we are going!

I hope you will share info if you receive a response from the Sup! I doubt you will receive anything of substance from NAAA.

I don't remember all these very expensive hoops-to-jump-through for the game we attended in Philly.

There wasn't...
My DS was a Plebe and I bought season tkts pre I-Day and the minimum B&G donation and for the 22 game at the Linc. I was able to get my 4 season tkts to Army-Navy and an additional 12 for family. We're a Philly Family and as I knew coming in it would be DS only Philly Army-Navy game, I was all in. Thank god I did with the way things have gone the last 2 years with ticket access. My one sister was interested this year and is now kicking herself for missing that 2022 Philly game now.

Different but similar topic.....mid food vouchers for the game.
My wife and I were lucky enough to attend the big game last year when our now Ensign was a then Firstie. While visiting concessions, we overheard many mids pooling their vouchers together to be able to afford 1 meal that they could share. The vouchers were not enough for a meal. Definitely not worth writing to the stadium owners but it definitely bothered my momma bear wife. And, indirectly, it bothered my wallet because we bought more than 1 mid a meal that day 🤣
