Just a question regarding walk ons and recruits. How does this affect them at service academies since there is no such thing as scholarship like other colleges? Is it basically everyone becomes a walk on with no guarantees/loyalty like it could have been with the previous coaches?

It varies. Sports like Sprint Football required tryouts every year. Other sports saw more continuity. It seems like it is coach dependent. Some will take the roster they have and others will build from the ground up making everyone start over.

DS is a football recruit. When the head coach transition occurred last fall, the remaining coaches stayed in constant contact with him. They were open and honest about their situation, i.e. not sure if they were staying or going, etc. They reassured him about his place at USNA/NAPS, his football future, and reminded him about why he chose to commit to USNA in the first place (beyond football).

It was clear to us that the order went out to the staff to protect and preserve the recruiting class. We appreciated the transparency of it all. My DS did not waiver one bit. Sure, he would have loved to play for Coach Ken, but he wants to serve more than he wants to play football, and he wants to play football at USNA more than he wants to play for a certain coach. He's excited about Coach Newberry and lots of key folks have remained on the staff. Tons of continuity and Navy Football is in great shape.

Not yet, but we've certainly been made aware and it is absolutely on DW's radar! I love the name of the group.

Fun tidbit - DS will be the 10th player from his high school to play at USNA, dating back to the 2008 season. DS's firstie year will mark 20 straight years of at least one player from his school being on the USNA football roster.

Go Navy!

This is great! Would you be able to share the name of the high school?
