New Guy has questions about ROTC Scholarships

Are you sure that a file that has been referred from one Board on to another Board can still have updated SAT information included?

Yes I'm sure, you can update ACT/SAT, but confirm it with CC so that it is not missed. Up until the first board (actually ~ a couple weeks before the board meets) You can make whatever changes as you wish. After that any changes you attempt, you should speak to someone at CC or your PMS/ROO to make sure that changes are actually made. My DS made a last minute change for 1st choice college, his PMS told him "attempt to make the change on line" and that he (PMS) would personally call and make/confirm the change. That was the day of the board, the change did get made. After the first board it's hit or miss, ACT/SAT updates are encouraged, some people last yr also changed school preference list as accepted/rejected letters came out.

At this point (summer) everything is changeable, they are just checking for completeness. Have everything tight before the 1st board. After that... if you try to make changes - hope for luck.

I can't stress enough, have a good relationship with your 1st choice ROO/PMS
they will help you a ton if you include them in the process. Yes, they may be a little disappointed if you chose a school other than theirs, but they are professional Army officers who want what is best for the Army.

If you don't get help from a PMS/ROO try elsewhere, yes some people do retire on active duty, but it's not the norm. My DS had officers from 4 different Universities go way out of their way to help him. The PMS at University of Cincinnati, The ROO at Xavier, the ROO at Arkansas and the PMS and ROO at Alabama. Clarksonarmy gave us a bunch of help via a lot of PM's and he knew DS had no interest in his school, these guys are pros. One school was not very helpful, I found out later that the ROO had rotated out and the new guy was struggling to get up to speed, s#!t happens. Be polite, be professional and be persistent, officers and future officers should overcome all obstacles.

ROO = Recruiting officer, usually a Major (MAJ) and second in command in a ROTC Battalion
FYI; PMS is usually a Lieutenant Colonel (LTC)

DS= Dear Son
DD=Dear Daughter
(D= sometimes Damn)

There is an acronym guide somewhere on this site,
you'll need it with Pima :worship: She's the AG (Acronym Goddess)
A life in the Air Farce, now her kids are going military also...
Thanksgiving Dinner at her house is probably just initials, no words at all.

Are you sure that a file that has been referred from one Board on to another Board can still have updated SAT information included? What about the file that goes before the Board with 550/550 and is denied, not referred to another Board (i.e. borderline). What happens when the Oct. SATs for denied file come in at 650/650... do you see the problem?

In AROTC applicants are not denied a scholarship on each board. If the applicant is not selected they are rolled over to the next board. Applicants are not officially denied a scholarship until the last board has met and all scholarships are awarded.

Applicants can submit new test scores after each board up to the cut off for the final board. Applicants can also change the order of their school selections between boards, anything else on the application can't be changed after the cut off for the first board.

You know he can interview at Johns Hopkins University since that is the host school for UMBC if making the trip to VMI is not convenient prior to the first board. He can always go visit VMI later. My DS interviewed at the host school of his 5th choice because it was the closest to us (we live in Southern MD, which is not close to anything) and I don't believe it affected his selection because he was offered a scholarship to his #1 choice.

I thought the "D" in DS and DD stood for Dependent...:redface:

I guess it could stand for a lot of things - dear, damn, dumb, darling, ditsy, deranged, delightful, difficult, dopey, demonic...and probably all of these at one time or another...:shake:

And that goes for the DH also!!! :biggrin:

Thanks to everyone for being so helpful.. I will stay active on here and keep everyone posted.
