In your online portal to your application, there is a section that says WHAT NOMINATIONS you have received. If there are NONE there, then you can't receive an appointment. However; that's not to say that the academy still can't use a VP nomination for you. Or, there are a few "Superintendent" nominations that the academy can use. Some are used for athletes and some are used for individuals they really want but for numerous reason that I can't list them all, weren't able to receive a nomination. Yet, they are a very solid candidate. E.g the perfect application, but the individual grew up overseas because of their parent's job and they really didn't have a MOC to get a nomination from. But again; you'd have to have the PERFECT application.
The fact that you did receive a nomination to West Point from a MOC means you "Could have" received one to air force. But if you didn't, then the chances are slim for an appointment to air force. But it is still possible; but you MUST have a nomination. Looks like VP is your only hope. Sorry if this isn't the most encouraging answer, but the truth is what it is. Best of luck. Mike....
