How long should it take for a nomination to appear in the CIS? I received a congressional nomination two weeks ago in the mail, but the CIS still claims I haven't received any...

DD received letters from both Senators on 29 Dec and 4 Jan and they were in the system by 7 Jan. I think it really depends on the congressional staff and how quickly they respond and not so much the admissions office.

It took almost 2 weeks to show up for me... Probably just depends.

Congressional and Senatorial Noms, Appointment received Dec. 23.

My recommendation is that you email your RD a PDF of your nom letter simply to "inform" them of your status. I bet it then shows up within a few days. That's worked every time for my DS.

Mine showed up a day or two after I received my the notification letter in the mail, dated the same day as the notification letter.

I suppose it varies. And your MOC may also be waiting to submit the nomination forms for whatever reason.

On the other hand, my Son's nomination showed up in CIS 1 1/2 months before he received a letter from the MOC.

Similar situation here -- portal shows nom received 12-28 but no MOC notification yet...

This is what the portal said:

Nomination Source; State; District; Date Received
    Congress/Senator 2; IL; 28-DEC-2011

Not sure what the "2" means (two Senators for the state?), and the "district" box was left blank.

"1" or "2" will be a nomination from one of your senators. If I remember, "1" will be the senior (longer serving) senator and "2" will be the junior senator.

I don't think so because I was told by Sen DeMint (SC, junior senator)'s staff that I have his nom to USNA.

It says Senator/Congressman 1 on my CIS portal.

Just checked the screenshot DS printed of his information last year. His senatorial nomination was listed as "Congress/Senator 2 TX" for the junior senator from Texas. The congressional nomination was listed as Congress/Representative TX 04 for Congressman Hall.

Unless I got a nom from the senior senator but didn't know it.....Not a bad surprise at all!

Wow - well that would bode well for my DS ("Congress/Senator 2 IL") but strange that the Senator's Office hasn't notified him (received by USNA Dec. 28) - maybe the holidays or something? No complaints here tho! :shake:

navy2016....It could be different in different states, or maybe it changed. We got our information about "1" for senior senator and "2" for junior senator from a previous thread on this forum.

craeder.....congrats to your DS! You can always call the Senator's office and ask. Maybe the nom letter is lost in the mail? They are all worth keeping, but some are very nice. Senator Hutchison's was a very formal document that could easily have been framed. Luckily her staff sent it to my son prior to asking if he could give back her nom since he already had two!

We did see a "Washington DC" number come up on caller ID today (no one was home, and DS was at school, obviously) but could have been a political call or something. Good idea about having DS call in a few days if he hasn't received anything...
