Like everyone else, our DS applied for all the available nominations but has not heard back on any of them. Does the MOC normally contact the applicant, does the nomination just show up on the portal, is there a "normal" or is it just each MOC does it their own way? Also, does anyone know how long it takes from the nomination to getting communicated to USNA until is shows up in the portal? Thanks in advance!

There are 535 MOCs and 535 methods for deciding and notifying. Some more like others, some differences nuanced, but in the end: 535.

Brace yourself — and DS — for the long haul. Coach him to not spend all his time checking the portal (yes, it happens). Encourage him to focus on Plan B, C, D and so on; to up his fitness; and to spend time with family and friends.

> Beat me to it...if I had dime for every time I've used that line here...

USNA's deadline for MOC to submit Nominations is end of January, and most are not sent until early-mid January. Notification of nominations is the prerogative of the MOC.

Nominations are not being reflected on the Candidate or BGO portals, since the new Admissions Platform is not completely integrated with the Nominations system. (Another function that I have heard will be coming). It really doesn't matter -- both Candidates and Admissions will know about the Nomination, so just be patient and let the process work.

Even doing it one way one year, doesn’t mean they will do it the same way next time. My two (now Mids) guys had Senators xxx’s nom. Oldest had it show up in his portal, no notification. Just happened to notice one day. Youngest, with the same Senator, was called and wakened from a deep sleep (that was pretty funny). Same Senator, different way of notifying.

Tell your son to answer unknown numbers through May (or until appointed)!! Also tell him to set up a PROFESSIONAL sounding voicemail. Most kids nowadays don’t even have that function enabled. Let alone a greeting. And then check it!

Good luck!!

Believe it or not I had my congressional nomination interview back in October and still haven’t heard back...

Congressman have to send out nominations to Academies by February 1st. If its not in the portal. you probably didn't get it.

Guess so... just find it strange that nobody contacted me stating my status. Director of constituent services has been in and out of the office since December.

Both of my Senators and my Congresswoman notified me by email (regardless of whether or not they gave me the nomination). I also received official letters in the mail a few weeks after the emails were received. The nominations showed up in my portals 1-2 days after I was notified by email.

i applied to my MOC and the two state senators. won the MOC nomination towards the end of january, received an email from one senator stating that i didn't get their nomination, and didn't hear from the other senator entirely.

Sadly, some MOCs fail to notify candidates who don't receive a nomination. IMO, that's despicable and inexcusable. Not sure why this happens but it happens every year. Probably laziness and / or an unwillingness to give a constituent bad news. Or perhaps an incompetent, disinterested SA coordinator. It's not that hard to send an email or letter to each candidate who didn't make the cut.

My personal opinion is that it's worth a letter (snail mail) or email to the MOC's SA coordinator (or even the MOC) politely saying something to the effect of: You haven't received any notification regarding the status of your request for a nomination. Given that it's now the middle of March, you assume that you didn't receive a nomination and also assume notification of this fell through the cracks. You're disappointed but are looking forward to pursuing other options for college and / or a military career.

I think it's worth letting the sad sack of an MOC know that failing to notify candidates is unacceptable and hurtful, but doing so in a much more respectful way than you (the candidate) were treated. Just my $0.02.

That’s similar to my son’s experience. Won the MOC, got a late snail mail rejection letter from one senator and never heard from the other.
