Both congressional nominations that I received (out of three), one from a senator and the other from a rep. were from two members of congress who were leaving office. I then called both offices of the new incumbents, Thom Tillis and Mark Walker, to see what was going on. I mean no disrespect by saying this, but they didn't seem to really know much about my situation. I actually had to give them all of my information again so that they could find me in some mysterious data base. They were very cooperative and, to me, seemed to have shown a true desire to help; however, I was wondering if anyone has been in this same circumstance or can shed light on this situation in terms of how it may affect the grand scheme of things.

I don't really have an answer, but chiming in to say, my son is in the same situation. 2/3 of his MOCs who nominated him are no longer in office. We haven't called anyone either.

Did your nominations get posted to your portal?

By "your portal" do you mean the application page of the USNA? If so, then yes, they were listed under the Nomination(s) Section of the candidate face page.

I think that is probably really all that matters. After you are nominated, it is in the hands of USNA Admissions from that point forward.

As long as they were posted it means the slates were submitted which is the most important thing. It sounds like the new MOC staffs haven't quite figured out the database they use that informs them of appointments. This is how MOCs know to call and congratulate. It's why they build in a few days difference between MOC notification and portal updates for candidates. This gives them a chance to call and inform. But as we have seen on this forum some MOCs don't either from lack of database understanding, other pressing issues or they just don't. Usually new MOCs have a long list of things to do and they are probably just not knowledgable yet.

This is true, but it's very hard for me not to want to bug these new congressional staffs for, I guess you could say, fear of being forgotten, or being oblivious to a decision when I could find out with one quick phone call. However, I do understand that in the end it is what it is.

When you say "portal updates for candidates" what exactly do you mean?

Your candidate portal. The one you have logged into and uploaded docs to and tracked for months.

Does USNA have an alerting system that one can sign up for if their portal changes? Any candidates or appointees know?

I think the OP thought you were referring to portal updates regarding appointment - which Navy does not do.

The way it normally works is that the MOC leaving office submits the slate. If, after the new MOC enters office, they want to add new candidates (i.e. the original slate(s) were not full), they can do that PRIOR TO January 31. However, by practice, they aren't allowed to start from scratch (plus they don't really have the time to do that) or remove candidates promised by the outgoing MOC.

DS's appointment not reflected on his portal, but his nomination from a now-retired MOC shows up. The MOC called to congratulate him on his nom but didn't let him know he was receiving an appointment (and the two events were only a couple weeks apart back in December). So - portals don't change when you receive an appointment, and getting a nomination from a retired MOC does not necessarily change the process at all, if that MOCS was one who didn't normally notify of an appointment anyway. As a PP said, the important thing is that they submitted a candidate's name on a slate.

Good luck to all still waiting!

DS received nomination from Congressman that lost re-election in Texas. Interviews were after elections so his departure from office was known. DS Received BFE in March. New Congressman staff was contacted and advised of appointment. They were excited and looking forward to meeting DS.
