Theres an ROTC forum if you scroll down just a bit on the home screen, in think theres also a private military college section to im sure someone in there would be able to answer better than most in here.

I tried lookng for Rook packing list on the website but couldn't find it. Call or email admissions officer. They may be coming out with a new Rook packing list. I read that there may be a uniform change so that may be the reason the packng list needs to be changed.
When you do get it stick to the list, don't add and don't take away.
Will your son report early? Football and fall sports reports about 3 weeks before Rook arrival. Don't wear Rook arrival clothes for athletic early arrival save it for the actual Rook arrival day.
He may be the only C of C cadet on the team, my son was an athlete and he told me in the last few years there were not any basketball players in the Corps. The new AD and commandant seems to be working with each other as oppose to years past. If your son is an ROTC scholarship awardee? Good luck

They don’t need much! As others said, just stick to the list when it comes out- it is VERY short (like, sneakers, boots, ten pairs of socks, ten white tshirts, ten pair of underwear, toiletries, iron, ironing board). If you’re coming from a far distance and flying, you can order larger items (fan, ironing board, etc) in advance and have them shipped to the school mailroom or your hotel (confirm that the hotel is ok with it).

For bedding, we did the school linen service for the first semester. They will only need plain white sheets and a pillow- the school will provide the blankets etc. We had to travel by plane to get to campus, so we built in some time to go to the Walmart in Barre to pick up cleaning supplies, toiletries and snacks. Our DD’s roommates coordinated around having a printer, ink and paper so they had that in their room.

It feels very stressful but just following the list is all you need to do at first! We set our student up with accounts on Amazon and Walmart so she could order odds and ends as she was settling in and that worked great. They need to buy a lot of cleaning supplies early in the first semester (all the Rook inspections!) but that lets up a bit as the semester goes on.

I am at Norwich. I do not recommend the linen service as a rook. You may find it difficult and stressful to find the TIME and to square all the corners to take and pickup your laundry.
Please explain. Are you saying that it takes more TIME to take and pickup your laundry than to do laundry yourself?

yes, super hard to get away from barracks to walk down there to pick up.
Washing machines and dryers are free, just provide soap.
Pro-tip : if an athlete bring a sleeping bag or poncho liner

lwutke, as a rook, you will have minimal time to go all the way to the laundry facilities and sometimes, I've heard (since I did not choose the service), they're not always on time. Plus, until you are recognized, you will have to square corners everywhere you go and that will not always be easy or as quick as you need it to be to go across campus to pick it up. Between you and your rook bros/sis, you can get the laundry done in the barracks. The note above to bring a poncho or sleeping bag if you're an athlete, DO NOT.

yep, this is the way to go for sure- the walk is far and a huge pain! we did the laundry service first semester and dropped it bc it was so much extra hassle for her to actually get there!

Hi! I will be a rook participating in NROTC this coming fall, and I recently found a PDF of the 2024 Rook Packing List! If you click on it, you will be able to save it to your files. I hope this helps :)
I was able to locate this on the university website, on a page titled “Fall 2024 Incoming Students”, and you will also be able to open the packing list in your browser there.
