The thing to remember is with the ROTC scholarship dates there is a drop dead date, and it is not I Day, it happens way before that. Actually if I recall for NROTC it is about a 45 day time frame. Traditionally any scholarship not accepted by June 1 is pulled. The I-Day notification is for official reasons to clear the rolls...check and balance. It is for the cadre to double check and see how many spots they have open, it is not to keep the scholarship in case at BCT you leave.
I do not know one cadet that went to USNA, got rolled back and was able to use their scholarship
Files automatically roll from one Board to the next.
Not true at all. There are candidates that their score on the WCS was not comp. that the board made the decision after the 1st review that they will not make the cut. There have been a couple of thin envelopes sent out already to posters on this board.
The files that do roll are ones that are on the cusp, and the board is just going to take the approach of wait and see.
Patent is correct, accepting an apptmt is considered binding. Now if the situation was reversed, got NROTC, still waiting on KP, it would be considered non-binding since SAs always trump ROTC.
Of course, if you are med. DQ'd for USNA between May 1 and I-Day, you are also med. DQ'd for NROTC.
Not necessarily true. Let's say you break your arm on June 15th, and I Day is July 2nd, for the SA you would be considered med dq, because I believe you are only allowed to miss 8 days from a medical standpoint. This mid would be a medical turnback.
Now that same mid, would get the cast off @ Aug 1st, so by the end of Aug they should be good to go, thus they would not be DQ for NROTC.
However, if something pops up between May 1 and I-Day that permanently causes a DQ than it is true that it would be for NROTC. However, this is very rare.
In the end of the day things to remember:
1. SA's are binding and trump ROTC scholarships, even if you accepted the scholarship.
2. You do not necessarily meet board after board until the end of the yr. It is their decision if they want to give you a 2nd look, and do not take for granted it will happen.
~If it does, update that file because it typically means you are on the cusp. New EC add it, new SAT score add it, new anything add it. All of this adds into your GPA.
~~~Think of it like being deferred for a traditional college from ED to RD. They defer because they need to see something more before they make a decision.
3. There are drop dead dates for scholarships.
~ You can accept the scholarship, but still are allowed to opt out after the date for an SA.
~ They are not going to hold that accepted scholarship once you accept that apptmt because you sent them back formal notification of the SA apptmt.
4. The Cadre may keep you on their list until after I-Day, but that does not mean you have the scholarship. The reason if you are on that Cadre list is because you did Plan B and paid the deposit to their college to hold the spot. It is up to the school to determine when that drop dead date for students will be.
If you are worried about Plan B, place a deposit at his number 2 school. Usually if they rescind before a certain date the money is refundable. If you don't it still holds their spot until the next cut-off date. Deposits are about 250 bucks.
A couple of yrs ago there was a poster that got accepted to the USNA, but they placed the deposit at a traditional college just in case. The child got to USNA and was immediately hit with a medical dq. (they get medically checked out again on I day). The date had past for the college, but because they paid the deposit, they allowed them to pop back in the system. They did not get the scholarship since they had passed the drop dead date for NROTC, but at least their child got to go to the number 2 school.
