I read over on the airwarriors forum that advanced standing was not given out to the classes of 2013 and 2014. Does anyone know the likelihood of advanced standing being granted to midshipmen in the class of 2017? Any more information about how advanced standing works I would greatly appreciate. Before I read this I used to think that advanced standing was virtually guaranteed if you met all of the basic requirements. I guess I'm mostly concerned that it will not be granted because of sequestration and budget cuts.

Can't speak to what you heard on Air Warriors. Of course Advanced Standing is never guaranteed. I'm sure the numbers awarded Advanced Standing have to do with the manpower needs of the Navy and Marines and how many they actually want to take from NROTC as opposed to other commissioning sources.

Further update: I've confirmed with DS that there are midshipmen in both class of 2013 and 2014 who are on Advanced Standing, so evidently what you were told on Air Warriors was incorrect. I suppose it might be true at some units but clearly it is not true NROTC wide.
