I heard that I could have my scholarship pay for my room and board OR my tuition. Not sure where I heard this, but I am curious if this is true. Anyone know? Thanks

I'm pretty certain that you cannot do that with the NROTC scholarship. It IS possible to do it with the AROTC scholarship. If it is applied to room and board (someone will correct me if I'm wrong about NROTC) then those monies become taxable income.

No, NROTC is tuition only. There are some units that subsidize room and board but not all. Alas my son's unit is not one of them.....

My DS (NROTC) school picks up the tab for all of their ROTC students, but as stated above, not all do.

Universities each have their own process for how they deal with scholarship winners. NROTC has paid for my DS's tuition and related costs such as lab fees. They pay a book stipend directly to the MIDN. His university withdrew his college based merit scholarship because of his ROTC scholarship which was very disappointing because he could've use that to help for his room and board. It is a good idea for anyone counting on college based scholarships to see if their military scholarship will affect that.
