I was rejected this admissions cycle for the Class of 2024. Whilst waiting for a decision, I realized that nursing is a career I’d really enjoy.

My question is: Is nursing school through the Academy an option? How competitive is it? Is it common?
I know Med School is a thing and that it’s incredibly competitive.

I’m playing baseball at a JC next year and think that transferring to complete nursing school, then joining the AF Reserves is also a great option.

Thank you in advance for the feedback and insight!

No, yes, no.
Great use of “whilst.”
Congrats on finding a spot to continue playing baseball.
Nursing is a great career. Choose gen. ed. classes that are also nursing pre-requisites.

While touring USAFA last spring with my DS '23, my younger daughter, who was with us, asked the admissions rep about nursing at USAFA. We were told they don't offer nursing and you would have to compete with the other students wanting to go to med school- extremely competitive (15 or so slots offered) Perhaps better off going AFROTC?

There is no nursing program at the Academy but attending nursing school after the Academy is absolutely an option. There are only a few slots but most that apply with good grades have a decent shot. There aren't too many people that apply for it, possibly because it requires good grades and people may not apply if the Academy says they won't be competitive but it also isn't a very sought after career field.

Pick the cheapest school. We don't know where you live so we can't give an estimate on salary range. The other option is going to a community college for an ASN and then getting a BSN later on.

Working for a medium size healthcare system I'd advise against an ASN, we don't even hire nurses with less than a BSN and to advance in the field a MSN or even DNP is the norm

Thanks for the reply. My plan is to play baseball at JC, then transfer to a Cal State to play (at least as long as I can while being a nursing major)
