Hi guys! I got an FFS offer from USAFA and considered attending NWP for a semester. I have a few questions regarding the second semester. I got admitted to some civilian colleges that I might want to potentially attend for the second semester. Should I try deferring the admissions to one of those schools or would I need to go through the college application again during the first semester? Has anyone had success being able to defer one of the schools? It seems like most of the schools I got admitted to won't let you delay your admissions for a reason regarding attending another school for a semester. Thank you!

I believe it is school dependent. From what I have seen -- and I've been investigating this possibility for my son -- the applicable prohibition that schools generally have during a deferment period is enrolling in a college or earning college credit. NWP is not a college and does not award college credit. So the angle I would play in making the request is that NWP is not an accredited college and you aren't earning college credit. In fact, all it really is is a form of "military" training (SA prep), which is often an enumerated permissible reason for deferment. So I would play up those angles in making the request.

My DS was accepted into Emby-Riddle Aeronautical University(Daytona) had his classes and roomates all picked out, but then received an appointment to USAFAPS in early June. He reached out and explained to Emby-Riddle and they were great, they refunded him his deposits and deferred his enrollment to this year. He is supposed to let them know, as soon as he finds out, if he made it into the USAFA or not. Each college is different, best you can do is call and explain the situation.

Marion Military Institute is an accredited college and is an option for Falcon Scholars! The Falcons and the usafa self preps here have a really tight knit family. If you have any questions pertaining MMI check out my forums page here on the prep school section!

Congratulations on your Falcon Scholarship! I attended NWP last semester as a free agent, and it was an absolute blast. It is extremely rigorous, but we had a great group of guys and gals, and I’m sure you will too, regardless of your choice. NWP has easily the greatest percentage of Falcon Scholars of any prep school, and I believe that speaks to the excellence of the program. Around 25-30 of my 60 classmates were Falcon Scholars. USAFA is the main focus of most who attend there (around 50/60 of us were going for USAFA), so you will certainly be around MANY of your future classmates. I cannot recommend it enough.

Congratulations! Any idea how your self-prep/free agent NWP classmates are doing appointment-wise?

My DD attended NWP as a FFS and is currently USAFA '26er. She deferred an admission at an out of state school but ultimately chose to do the required spring courses at a community college in the spring, which saved a lot of money and got the job done. NWP prepared her well. It is a unique and special place. Good luck and congrats.

I just recurved FFS and am considering NWP. Does FFS pay tuition at college the second semester? How does that work?
