OK. another related thread on the october board results.

I understand the letter will go out by Friday or Monday. However, that snail mail will take several days. Will the on line status now be updated to show the schools he got the scholarship? In this case, this is as good as the letter as a "final confirmation" for where he got the scholarship. Wouldn't it be?

Last year, when did the on line status change to include the list of schools the candidate got the scholarship for?

My son is dying to get the official, final words. It's not just idle curiosity.

It's a matter of urgency that he needs to find out so that he can convert the submitted regular decision application to #2 to early decision application. The early decision (ED) deadline was Nov 15th, but we believe, with the advocacy of the ROTC officers, the school will let him convert the application to ED if it is within a few days past the deadline, but we hate to push the limit.

If he applied ED, he gets the result by Dec 10 or so, and it's wonderfully within the 30 days period to notify the Cadet Command his final choice. I really hope he can wrap this all up before the holidays.

Don't let the Fog of War dictate your course of action. Be decisive and submit the ED and then rely upon your son's strong creds and rapport he established at the BN make his dream a reality.

He needs to learn early that the military will rarely offer clear-cut career decisions and taking a bit of calculated and well-informed risk is what is expected of young officers.

Ah, but if he did not get the scholarship to the #2 school, but to the next school on his list, he will choose that next school in a second. Both are of similar academic strength and have a reputation for outstanding education. He likes both of them, though there is a slight preference for #2. There is NO way his preference for #2 school would outweigh the benefit of being a scholarship cadet in the #3. school.

That's why we won't make a binding early decision commitment to #2 unless we know it's official. AND clarksonarmy warned us all that until it's official, things can still change. Calculated and informed risk is all well and good, but put it next to the potentially really bad consequence that could have been avoided if he waited a few more days, it sounds reckless.

So the question is, will the online status change to include the school list, and if so, will it be done when the letter starts go out so that we get the final confirmation before the snail mail works its way through the streets and towns.

According to Cadet Command, it was not official until we received the hard letter copy in the mail.

We had a few issues last year with my son's school of intent list. Cadet Command would not discuss it even though his status had changed. Until they mailed the letters and we had it, they told me that it was not considered official.
