Official USAFA Class of 2017 Appointment thread

Arabian desert-dwellers feeling with you, Alpineskier

My DS said he actually knows the regular timing of the synchronizing - but he is in school right now so I can't ask him.

The good news is, when the synchronizing is complete, new news shows up! And you get it first before all the West-dwelling cadets-in-waiting. I bet you get the prize for being Furthest East Hopeful :)

in the appointee booklet it says 1,165 give or take, i believe.

I don't have enough posts to be able to include URL's in my post, but as a follow-up from NN139's post above, tweaking the URL gives an interesting comparison of the stats for all the service academies. Substitute "usma", "usna", or "usmma" for "usafa" in the web address to view the stats pages for the other academies.

It looks like USAFA had the fewest applicants and the highest (comparative) acceptance rate among the major service academies, not including the USMMA.

USAFA:
1,035 from 12,274 applications (8.4%)

USMA:
1,193 appointments from 15,171 applications (7.9%)

USNA:
1,394 appointments from 20,601 applications (6.8%)

USMMA:
409 appointments out of 2,211 applications (18.5%)

Do you know the stats for USCGA?

I believe that is the number of appointments given, not the class size. Based on previous year data, we can assume the class size will be around 82.6% of the total appointments, or around 963 cadets for the Class of 2017.

What is the difference between Candidate Pool and Qualified Candidate? Because there a much less Qualified Candidates (about 2300) and Candidate Pool (about 8000)

Qualified candidates are candidates that meet the minimum academic and physical requirements, are medical qualified (DoDMERB) and have a nomination of some type. So last year 52% of qualified candidates actually received a nomination. It's tough. There is just no way around it.

Class of 2017

Word from USAFA liaison is that the incoming class of 2017 will be approximately 1165. 'Admissions Office is finishing up its selections'. Hopefully you will all hear very soon. For reference, 2016 incoming was 1037.

i'm not sure if i read your post wrong but do you mean 52% of qualified candidates got a nom or 52%received an appointment if they had a nom

it seems like the delay is about 6 days from when they mail you anything so i'm hoping we will be hearing from them in the coming week or so. one thing im unsure of is when your portal will change IF you are fortunate enough to receive an appointment. does it change before you get anything in the mail?

i can't believe all the waiting is coming down to these next couple of weeks. i remember last year in December i thought march would never come

I looked up the 2016 appointment thread, and the last appointment on the thread appears to be May 15 (and approximately 10% of appointments post on the thread). Likewise, the large majority of appointments seem to have arrived the week of March 21-28. The scattering of earlier appointments show up similarly to this year, so heres looking forward to a couple more weeks of waiting. Good luck to all, and stay strong!

I didn't see this addressed in this thread but does anyone know the timing of 2017 appointments for current USAFA Preppies? Have any of the current Preppies already received their appointments?

The number of appointments offered is different than the number of appointments accepted, I believe the number of accepted appointments for 2016 was around 1065, so the number of offers must have been higher. From USAFA admissions the number of appointments being offered for 2017 is 1165, so we'll probably see less than that number actually accepted.

Prep appointments

Patrick,
I haven't heard that any of the Preppies have received appointments to the 2017 class, yet. Last year, ten of the Preps received early appointments at the end of February but not this year.
