So I'm leaving for Orientation tomorrow and I was curious about whether or not there will be any PT for us to participate in that we need to have clothes for. Thanks!

I don't know if it'll be anything like the Diversity Program but my cadet escort got out of doing her PT type stuff that day because she was escorting. I guess it might depend on the escort but maybe bring clothes just in case.

There won't be any organized squad PT. Your cadet might be willing (time allowing) to take you down to the field house or on a run so it wouldn't hurt to bring something if you'd like and have the room.

DO NOT wear one of your parents' A-jackets as I saw one appointee do today at Mitch's. And yes, many others sitting at my table who will be basic cadre remembered his name, because it was friggin' written on his jacket.

It was some kind of dark pants, not sure if was blues pants though. Either way, the pants didn't fit, he had his hands in his pockets, and just looked goofy in general. Not to mention he has not earned his uniform.

    To clear this up:

DO NOT wear any sort of uniform there (Parent's old one, JROTC, CAP)
DO NOT wear your letterman jacket... no one cares you have 5 things on the back of it. So did a lot of the people here, so did some people who quit.

PT... if your cadet is willing to go down there with you. Wouldn't hurt to bring athletic shorts and a shirt if you have room.

This is late for this session but my kids wore khakis and polo type shirts -- and had their huge afro hair then so they stood out for that reason. I don't think anyone recognized them at BCT because of course, they had their heads shaved 3 weeks before they left so they wouldn't look like they'd done it for BCT.

They had shorts and T's with them and sneakers. I know one went to the gym with his cadet escort and had a great time with the guys there. The other one didn't since his escort had other plans.

Will we have access to the clothes we bring and store in the field house (think that is where it is) so we can grab them for later? I just was unsure how everything flows.

you'll have all of your stuff that was stashed in the field house (you leave nothing there while you're with the cadets) so pack everything into a small duffel/large backpack. recommendations: khakis/polo or other plain shirt, comfy shoes. i wore my running shoes and brought PT gear but didn't end up using them except to sleep it a lot of people DID go workout in some sort though.

Feel free to ask if you'd like to work out. If your cadet can't take you they may be able to find someone to go down with you.

if you want to go for a run or workout or something, send me a pm and if one person can't take you, i definitely can. i've learned a lot about athletic standards and working out here!:wink:

and don't get so worked up about what you wear. reading these stories and seeing first hand, most of us cadets are not to judge on what you wear, as long as it's not ridiculous

Actually, cadets are not allowed to "trade" appointees or have appointees leave them at any time. It's important for the cadet to stay with the appointee at all times.

Technically true, but common sense will occasionally dictate otherwise.

Clothes don't matter much at all. As long as it looks respectable, we won't judge. I personally think it kinda looks ridiculous when an appointee does the whole dressing up for this like slacks and blazers. Think along the lines of casual nice.
