Has anyone recently scheduled their applicant for the DoDMERB in the UK? The guidance we were given was to schedule with the MTF (great we are empaneled at Lakenheath and get all our care there). The MTF refuses to do DoDMERB exams as ”leadership has decided not to do them for civilians“ and refers us back to our recruiter. So far we have not gotten a reply from the DODMERB case worker. We are really at a loss of where to go as the MTF is not helpful, and time is running out. (Before telling us to go to a local clinic/gp please only respond with a specific clinic in the UK known to do these physicals. The NHS does not work like the US and most offices will not see unregistered patients nor do physical exams.)

Hi there dealt with this back in October. We were advised to go privately by dodmerb and sent a specific form (DD forms 2802 and 2807-2) went privately with our GP with separate visits to the hospital for audiology tests, dentist for proof of no more braces, and specsavers for eye test. All in, it cost us about £400. One word of advice, go with your son or daughter and prep the GP surgery ahead of time. They are used to doing forms for the Royal Navy/Army, but some of the terms/tests are slightly different and might need translating. Also, the most difficult part was scheduling the audiology appointment because in the UK privately clinics won't see under 18s for insurance reasons, which means you have to get a referral through the NHS and that took some doing. The challenge is that all the different appointments have to be within 10 days of each other, so planning the timing of different visits is something to consider. Pm me if you have any other questions.

NHS docs will see you privately because it's a money spinner for them. So when you call make sure you indicate it'd a private appointment you are after. Ours cost £200 for the gp, £75 for audiology at hospital (cause the local doctors surgery didn't have the right machine), £75 at spec savers, and the £50 for the follow up visit to the gp so he could sign off on the audiology report and because he reported one of the categories on the first form wrong because of misunderstanding the form. The dentist's letter was free (yeah didn't expect that?!).

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of info we are searching for. Unfortunately, we aren’t enrolled with the NHS and don’t have a GP. If there is a private clinic somewhere to pay for the exam we are happy to do so but haven’t found one.

Most gp surgery docs will do a private appointment-- even house calls, provided you are willing to pay-- my experience is you will get more love if you can circumvent the surgery's receptionist and speak to one of the doctors. Lakenheath is a pretty small village, but their local gp might be accustom to getting american private patients given the raf base is so close. But most likely you will have to travel down to Cambridge and find a private gp there. If you search on Google private gp appointment and put in your post code there are plenty of options that pop up. None of them will be familiar with the forms you need filling out but they will all know how to do a medical exam and the form really is paint by number-- and dont worry they will be keen to take your money 😉

Thanks! This is the most helpful advice we’ve gotten so far!
