What are we supposed to wear on PW? Should we be in dress pants/ dress shirts? I just do not want my kid telling me that I did not dress appropriately.

    :)

    Business casual is always appropriate:

For men: slacks and a polo/button down. You probably could wear jeans if you wanted or dress shorts if it's going to be super hot.

You don't need to "dress up". Whatever you wear though, I highly encourage comfortable shoes.

    I second the comfortable shoes!

PW is not a formal occasion. But it is a step up from jeans and a T-shirt. Also, unless things have changed, it will be very hot at Beat Retreat. Bring a bottle of water (the vending machine will sell out quickly) and be prepared.

    Have a great time!

    well sure

Business casual is always a safe bet but for those thinking about other attire remember a few basic rules that I've heard from my own upperclass DS since he's been at the Academy:

    1) No one with a body fat index over 15% should ever consider wearing Spandex - this rule applies equally to all regardless of age or gender. In fact I know both DS and several classmates feel this should be the law of the land, even if a Constitutional Amendment is required.

2)Men the ages of their fathers should wear their pants such that they top out on their waist. There is no need ever to have/wear your belt at elbow height - i.e. above your beer gut. If you have a beer gut consider the alternatives which include "at the high end" liposuction and "at the low end" tasteful, somber suspenders.

    3) Woman the ages of their mothers, when in public forums/events such at USMMA PW, should NOT wear blouses, etc. that are cut in a manner such that their bras are prominently noticeable. While the occasional exposure of shoulder bra strap is acceptable, an outfit where a "bra cup" is always visible is not. It's embarrassing to them. Further such outfits should not be worn by a P/C's mom without a bra during parents weekend, even if she "can and does pull it off well." It's just has way too many potential outcomes that are problematic.

    4) The above said, the upperclassmen all are absolutely fine with sisters and girlfriends of P/C's opting to wear "swim wear" whenever they are on or near campus during the weekend, especially if they have no worries re: the body fat content limits that apply in rule number 1.

Kidding aside - biz casual, age appropriate "conservative" attire and COMFORTABLE shoes are advisable for Friday on campus. Also it can be hot and sticky walking around. USMMA students are always ranked as one of the most conservative student bodies in the nation.....

You're too fun Jasperdog! I can't imagine why it would bother my ds for his Mum to wear a tube top and a mini skirt to parent's weekend :yllol::yllol::yllol::yllol: Seriously though don't think I ever owned a tube top in my life and after having 9 pound babies I am as modest as they come. Shorts?? Are you kidding me? People would have to wear sun glasses around my legs.

Love you Jasper! Darn and I was getting out my age inappropriate attire ha!

    Seriously though, casual, comfortable clothing.

For the football game if parents try to wear a blue or gray KP shirt (tee shirts fine) that would look awesome in the stands :)

Bring your rain gear as well as your summer wear. Last year it was cold, rainy and windy on Friday of parents weekend. I did not bring a heavy coat but my well prepared sister did! It was still on the cool side Saturday but not as stormy. Sunday almost hot. Reminds me of OR where it's always wise to come prepared for any kind of weather! :shake:

Seriously, you need to consider writing the AMPLIFIED Conduct/Dress/Reccomended reading ..... a book with all of these Forum comments. You could address each area of USMMA history and life.

I would be in line FIRST to buy this one. Every single parent could use a giggle, a laugh, or a down right 'belly' laugh no matter what Class their DD ad DS were in. I have had many these last few days. I am checking in everyday for the information you give and your style of presenting it.

    This could make you a $million$ :yllol::yllol::yllol::yllol::yllol:

I'm considering it and to that end I've saved over 1,000 emails between myself and DS since he got to KP. My fear is if I ever did anything with that sort of stuff DS would launch a sort of "me too" to the Facebook Group/Page "S#*t My Dad Says...". Also I have several classmates who I still fear that even after the 28 years since graduation have at least hard copies of pictures of me as a Midshipmen doing really stupid stuff and with good quality scanners being $100 bucks or less I'm not sure I want them plastered all over the internet as part of a sort of rogues gallery of "Before They Were..." website... But I am considering it. Turth be told the real reason is for every one good/funny thought I come up with, I have at least 10 really stupid, inane ones that would come off as boorish.....

    Hurricane Earl

Looking at the projected path, it looks like it would be smart to bring foul weather gear. From what I can tell on the weather.com site, Earl will be in the New York area Friday or so.

Oh no, not another rainy Parents Weekend. I think this would make 3 in a row.
    Bring rain gear!
Last year we ended up in (a very weird) Walmart buying foul weather suits Friday evening, and by Saturday the weather had cleared enough that we never used them. An expense for the weekend that CAN be avoid by planning for anything.

I've been looking at that as well. DS is out on his first Sea Year cruise, so we won't be on LI next weekend - but we're following Earl anyway, since we're doing a weekend cruise out of NYC to the Canadian Maritimes. If we do make port, looks like the KP umbrella we bought last year at Parents' Weekend will come in handy.

DS's ship is trailing behind Danielle right now. They were far to the north of her most of the week but they are headed to SC/Ga so I guess they had to come south eventually. My husband keeps saying something about following winds and not to worry. Hmmmm...

It's "fair winds and following seas..." Hope DS catches some following seas from Earl.

No kidding here folks. Bring a small, battery-powered, portable fan, if you plan on enjoying the event, which by itself is great. But holding it in the world's hottest gym (we're in the North, we don't need air conditioning) is a recipe for misery. Stick several hundred people into a confined space and just open a few windows, no problem.

I felt so sorry a couple years ago for the band leader of the bagpipes; that poor soul was just about to keel over wearing his regalia and keeping a stiff upper lip. Have a heart, folks!

It would be an outstanding performance if the powers that be could somehow get funding to fix the place. But what am I saying, we're talking about Kings Point, sorry, lost my head for a moment.

It's definitely too early to tell yet, but they are saying Earl may be @200 miles off the NE coast - but then Sat & Sun look beautiful with heat wave gone - here's hoping. But good point, no matter, Beat Retreat is HOT with all of those bodies crammed into the gym. Regardless, it is SO worth being there ~ "weather" or not.
