What is the distance a cadet may travel away from USAFA during parents weekend? I thought I heard 150 miles.

Yeah, typically cadets can't leave the 150 mile radius without some form of special permission. If you really need to during Parents Weekend, it can be done, your cadet will just need to send up some paperwork (called a SSS.) A guy in my squad did that this year to attend a wedding back home.

Within distance

In the last 4 years we've been to Boulder, Vail, and Breckenridge. I think Vail is just at the envelope's edge. All three are great spots to visit on Labor Day weekend.

It's a busy time, Parents Weekend, and 150 miles is a long way.

Plan very carefully BEFORE you drag your new Cadet off too far, especially if s/he just wants to sleep and lounge in the hotel pool.

One thing we did in the the boys' 2* year: we went to Cheyenne Mountain Resort which is way out of our normal vacation genre (read: tent). It was so beautiful, and the food was wonderful and we still can't believe we paid $10 for a Coke (probably $12 now!).

Lots of area attractions are free for your cadet on PW. Call ahead and ask.
