Admittedly unraveling the thread a bit further from K del R's original question, I can say plebes get told all kinds of stuff. We play "rumor control" at our house just for fun, to hear what is being passed around. Just this past weekend, sponsor plebe asked if that "big white house you can see from Naval Academy Bridge is really Hugh Hefner's place." It's a former religious retreat house now an eldercare community. We had at least 3 other "we heard you can't do X, or Y isn't acceptable in the Fleet (all total BS)," as well, as "is it true that all the red marks on a chief petty officer's uniform means the number of bad conduct demerits he/she has earned?" Classic case of a tiny grain of truth layered up with conjecture and extrapolation, ultimately resulting in an inaccurate statement.
I expect Go Navy Mom's daughter got the "mosaic version" of the basic truth: plebes can't drink alcoholic beverages, regardless of age.
OK, patient K del R, you probably learned more about other stuff this thread, along with pay-per-view, bottom line, you will have to be lucky and creative to get your fix.
