Has anyone been moved from Pre-Candidate to Candidate status? Wasn’t sure how long that takes. PCQ was submitted a week ago.

USAFA candidate kits are typically released in July. Over last two years, the kit was available starting on July 15. I tell my students that the 'good news' is that they have started the process! Good luck with your's :)

USAFA is redesigning the candidate kit. You will remain in applicant status until USAFA completes the redesign. If you have submitted your PCQ for the class of 29 you should have received an email and a mentor ALO assignment on your portal. You won't hear anything about promotion to candidate status until the candidate kit is completely redesigned. that won't be at least until May but could be as far out as 1 July.

Can I still seek nomination before I am officially moved to candidate status? The application process for nomination from one of my senators opened March 1. Other than that there is nothing I can do until the candidate kit is released?

One thing my son did at this point was to reach out to his guidance counselor, teachers, coach, CAP folks to give them a heads up about the letters of recommendation he would be asking for from them. He made sure he had the best email to reach them over the summer and gave them a general idea of the letters he’d need for nominations and SA applications.

The essays prompts are generally the same from year to year so you could get started in those.

Training for cfe is always a good idea.

Your status with USAFA re: candidate, not a candidate has nothing to do with your seeking a nomination. Press on with that. If you receive a nomination prior to USAFA determining whether or not they wish to "elevate" you to candidate will make it easy: once nominated, you're automatically elevated.
