Peanut Allergy Waiver Denied

Hello,
Recently I had an acceptance letter to USNA, but a day later it was rescinded due to a medical disqualification for my peanut allergy, which I definitely do have. I completed a skin test and an IgE test to which it was deemed unsafe for me to complete the oral ingestion challenge. I realized that the test is not to determine waiver eligibility based on the severity of the allergy but to have no allergic reaction at all. I am feeling pretty bummed out and I’m not sure if anyone knows what I can do for USNA to appeal or fight this. Additionally I got accepted to the NROTC scholarship and am wondering if the same thing is just going to happen for the scholarship and I get disqualified.

I had a similar experience, I got DQ'd by dodmerb because of nut allergies. However, once I completed oral food challenges for all, my dodmerb changed to green. I'm pretty sure the best way to get your waiver through is to take a oral challenge. However, if you said that the IgE test/skin test concluded that it was unsafe to do it, then I'm not sure if they will accept it. If you haven't already, talk to an allergist and see if they can get you immune to peanuts through the weeks remaining until your r/i day. Or, you can test yourself by eating small bits of peanuts until you think that you can handle it.

Best of luck!

Please arrange your own oral challenge ASAP. An oral food challenge test is considered the gold standard for diagnosing food allergies Some doctors are not willing do test if the skin/blood test reading is not good -- but some research doctors are more willing to push the limit.

food challenge is a pass/fail test --- increasing from small amount to the threshold. So if you do have allergy -- then you won't be able to pass.

just wondering how could you receive an acceptance letter (an appointment) if your DODBERB has not been clear ? I guess you have an LOA (conditional acceptance)

The only thing I would say is to try to complete the oral test. If you really want to prove you are fine, take the test. And yes usually if you get DQ'ed from the academy you'll also get DQ'ed from NROTC. I was DQ'ed from NROTC until I got my condition waived by USNA.
