So I missed some excitement at my house this past week, I was on a short deployment and when I got back my son told me the USCGA called him!! Apparently they were inquiring about his plans with his current application (he applied to AIM but didn't get accepted). He has started his application and is getting all the pieces together. Apparently it was a call from the school asking about what his intended major will be and where the USCGA is on his list of service academy preferences.
Seems like good news that they actually called him, but is this just standard practice and everyone gets called? He said it wasn't his admissions officer, any thoughts?

Just hypothesizing, but I expect all AIM applicants are called and encouraged to complete their application. I suppose they might leave some out of this but I would guess the majority are called. Nevertheless, if it lights a fire under some kids butt to get their application completed, then its a good thing! :)

If your child applied to AIM, but was not accepted, they are eligible for Cadet for a Day. Follow this up through the website. In many ways CFAD is a much better introduction to daily life at the Academy.

We are planning a trip to both the USCGA and USNA, we are going to base it around the Cadet for a Day, just waiting to arrange the schedule around football.

He applied to AIM but was not accepted, but is attending Cadet for a Day in Sept.

My son never applied to AIM, but did get a call. Two calls in fact. He was asked about his intended major and where CGA fell in terms of his school choices. CGA is his third choice right now and that is what he told them. I guess there was not much more to the conversation. Kind of a strange call, and he thought it sounded like someone young, as opposed to someone from admissions.

Son got the same call. Applied for AIM but did not get in. Will attend cadet for a day in November.

Talked to an admissions officer about the phone call. It was just a survey based on information they have received that our son has shown interest in the Coast Guard Academy.

See now that is not the right answer, it should be "Awesome that means your son is a shoo in for the USCGA, getting a call is an amazing leg up on the rest of the competition, congratulations!!"
lol.... jk

By the way, where is the availability for cadet for a day signups? I haven't seen it and he is eligible....

My son also got the call. He did not apply for AIM and has not started an application. He did send them SAT scores but has just about eliminated them from his choices because the do not have Aerospace Engineering. He is a candidate at all three other academies (yeah I know, USMA doesn't have aerospace either)
