Plebe summer 2027

I'm headed down to the Yard early tomorrow. I'm going to soak it all in. In between business calls, I'll get the DBIDS card, grab a coffee, walk the perimeter, hit Dahlgren for plebe summer books and other goodies, Museum tour, take out a HELOC for a Midshipmen Store splurge, watch noon and evening formation.

Heck, I may climb Herndon myself! Am I missing anything?
Missing watching parade practice, and morning fitness. Both were highlights for us.

Have a FANTASTIC time!!

... Ok, you want adventure in the bookstore, go to the dining merchandise area. I bought all kinds of sets -> (2 each) drinking glasses, table cloths, coffee cups, beer mugs. At the cash register, the staff wraps each object like it's from ancient Mesopotamia, 10-15 minutes. The beer mugs {bronze??} are interesting; a card instruction is included on how to prep it for your favorite beer. I use it for display mostly in the house but on occasions I take it out as if it's the red badge of courage. It's a slow conversation starter, "so you went to Naval Academy? No, my son is there now." If traveling by air, need to have a separate luggage for it. Don't let those 🤣 crazy luggage handlers touch it in any way shape or form. Bon Appetit!
Well you also have a house to decorate in all things USNA ⚓

Last YR being new to USNA, I took it all in. Caught noon formation Thursday. Spent hours walking the yard reading the monuments & in the Museum. Several 'tuition payments' in Mid-Store. My Mid stayed in our rental enjoying AC and good wi-fi. I have to say viewing Friday 5am PEP was very cool and I recommend it is not missed. It was Super impressive to see Major Antonelli lead the Plebes in PEP from his "Tower". Hearing his chants of 26 are you ready and then their replies of 'Always Ready Sir!!'. Then I felt bad and lame after finding out he was not much younger than I am and barely broke a sweat and never sounded winded.

Or him getting stuck on a number for 5 more counts because he was not happy with the effort being put forth. Up down 8, up down 8, up down 8, up down 8, up down 9. 😂 and his calf muscles bigger than my thighs! That man is a beast and a legend. I loved watching morning PEP.

Well PPW is over. I feel like I went through PS (okay, maybe not). I did almost all of the suggestions above. I also did a complete walk of the perimeter. I put up 8 miles almost everyday. The museum was fantastic. I spent hours there. The model ships were fascinating.

I met my daughter alone on Stribling as my wife was dealing with employee issues. We had the biggest hug of our lives and maybe cried a bit. It was so great to see her. She is in a good spot. She kept saying "It is what it is" whenever referencing a less than fun experience. We had a great meal at Donnelly's Dockside. Going back the first night was rough, but powered through.

At end of the day, she likes a lot of people, including some detailers, dislikes a few, enjoys most of the evolutions, dislikes marching and just wants to get started with school and really, really wants to get rolling with her sport.

Thanks to all the advice and support here!

P.S. I warned her tomorrow may not be too fun.

Tomorrow won’t be fun. But it’s a good week. They start to get freedom, move rooms, computers, Mid Store for school stuff. There is more down time and they start to turn to the academic year. The scary part is as Mids return to the yard you realize that it has now switched… you are outnumbered. They will be fine and settle in by the end of tomorrow. Soon they will have phones and internet at their disposal.

Addendum: 9 of her girlfriends from high school came down on Saturday to take her to lunch. They made quite the scene screaming on T-Court when they saw her come out of Bancroft. Lot of tears flowing.
that is so fun!!! love it!! glad you guys had a great weekend together!!!!

Firsties are back today, the rest of the Brigade by 1800 tomorrow.

My kid was waiting for us to come pick him up at the Mid Store yesterday, and overheard a Plebe talking to their parents about 22nd Co. That was where my kid's 4/C group from the old company shifted for this coming year. So, he introduced himself and said welcome aboard.

Someone else congratulated him. We both had to stop and think for a second. The person thought he was a Plebe. :D (With how unsat his longer hair was, not sure how that happened!!).

What is her sport if you don’t mind my asking? Semi-related, did anyone else hear the Xmas music playing as we returned our plebes to Bancroft?

So is Hello Night tomorrow?
