My son has applied to both the USAFA and USNA. He received a nomination to both in the past couple of weeks. His application shows as complete. I know most appointments go out in March, but I read they may have moved to a rolling admission process. Do you know if March is still the most likely date to hear back from the USNA on appointments? Thanks

You will be happier if you plan on March. It could happen (or not) at any time between today and the day before Induction Day.

So: Is it possible to receive a last-minute appointment? If April 15 comes and goes, is there still a chance to be appointed if another appointee turns down their appointment?

A related question: Will we be notified if she is NOT going to receive an appointment? Or is the "final answer" when she is not at I-Day?

^^ USNA WILL let all applicants know their final status by approx April 15. You are not just left hanging.

In some prior years they have been waiting lists and individuals MIGHT get their appointment just shortly before I-day, but USNA keeps you informed about that.

USNA commits to notifying every candidate of their status NLT April 15. The options are appointment, turndown or waitlist. Only those on the waitlist have an opportunity to receive an appointment after April 15.

My roommate received his Appointment to USAFA in June of 1983. I know another guy that was 'appointed' three days prior to I-Day.

The SA's offer more appointments than they have slots so they don't expect everyone to accept. I think you will be informed at some point via the TWE that you are/were a 'qualified alternate' (if you are 3Q). If enough people decline their offer of appointment, it is conceivable that they will reach far enough down the qualified alternate list to get to you.

If you get the TWE and are considered 3Q, you should be prepared to pursue your plan B, C, D option. It happens (late appointments), but it is not something to bet upon.

Best of luck to not be in that boat.
